Toucans: Blog items

Toucans 21.4.20, by Mrs Whittingham

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 8:39am

Good morning Toucans and I hope you are all keeping well. This week for Maths we are going to try out the BBC maths lessons that are online. We will continue with some daily writing activities so that you don’t forget how to write!! Remember to read the English writing task carefully, make a plan for yourself like we do in school and then draft your work. Take your time and reread and edit regularly as you go along. Remember to take care with presentation and spelling.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go!” – Dr Seuss

What could you read today?  It could be singing songs or reading something about a sport you love; things to read are everywhere.  Go on - read anything! - Mrs Powell

Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 8:59am

Good morning my lovely Toucans! I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the Easter break. In the Whittingham house we did lots of baking, colouring and crafts to prepare for Easter. Aoife loved decorating our front window and we did an Easter Egg hunt in the garden.

It was lovely to speak to your parents last week and to hear how well you are all doing. We have been impressed by how many of you, like us, are doing Joe Wicks every morning. Also to hear how independent you have been by just getting on with your home learning and getting the right balance between work and play. I would like to reiterate this message to you again this week. It’s important to read the blog daily and have a go at the activities but remember just do as much as you can. Keep reading lots! Try and complete a Maths, English and one other activity daily.

I will attach an updated timetable for this week with some new ideas and websites for you to have a look at. Remember just do as much as you can.

“When you talk, you are only repeating something you know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” – Dalai Lama

What have you learnt from someone around you? On our daily walk, I found out that my daughter is an expert on windfarms. What could you learn from someone?  What could you teach someone? Mrs Powell

Date: 6th Apr 2020 @ 10:15am

Good morning Toucans and happy holidays! I just want to say how proud I am of each of you. You have worked so hard over the past two weeks. You all definitely deserve a break. As you already know, as a school we have decided to set a blog weekly over the next 2 weeks with some ideas for home learning, however, most importantly, we would like you to have a rest! Enjoy the sunshine and spend time doing more of what makes you happy. I am planning to do some baking with Aoife and weed my garden!

I will attach the home learning plan for the Easter break and I would love to see what you get up to over the next couple of weeks on Twitter.

Take care, Mrs Whittingham, Mrs Downing and Mr Beswick.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you are all keeping well. I was chatting with Aoife about what a joke is and we then spent ages exploring this website https://www.beano.com/ full of great quizzes, games, jokes, videos etc. Definitely worth a look to amuse yourselves over the next few weeks.

“You will never have this day again. So make it count”

Good morning children,

It may not feel like it but we are all very lucky to have each other.  What are you going to do today to make it different from yesterday, we never get today again.  What will you do today?  How will you use it?  Will you draw a picture?  Do some PE?  Help someone at home?  I’m keeping a diary so that I can remember how I made each day count, could you?  Mrs Powell

Stay safe and remember this: “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”

Easter Break Home Learning

As a school, we have decided that the daily blogs will not continue through the Easter holidays. We think it’s important you all have a break from this kind of learning and instead play, bake, garden, spend time together and relax! However, you will still get a weekly blog.

Here are some ideas for home learning ideas that you could do over the two week break, if you’d like! I'll add Week 2 in next weeks blog. Happy holidays everyone!

Week 1

Reading

Continue with some form of daily reading – you reading to your child, your child reading to you or whole-family reading time! Maybe you could try listening to some audio books on https://stories.audible.com/start-listen. They are free for as long as schools are closed!

Zoo Visit

Go on a virtual visit to Chester Zoo with your family. On 27th March, Chester Zoo held a virtual zoo day where the live streamed footage from different enclosures around the zoo. Relive this experience by visiting the Chester Zoo YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ9UagJLiMdBIFOHYwT7eLA

Dear children,

Where do you dream of going?  What do you want to do?  Just because we can’t visit new places doesn’t mean we can’t think about what we would like to do and where we could like to visit.  This saying also means you can do great things.  What great thing can do today?  This can be anything, big or small it is still an achievement. Toucans Blog Week beg. 23/3/20

Good morning Toucans! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready to commence your home learning. It is a very strange feeling for me this morning that I’m not able to greet you all personally, remind you to choose your dinner and to settle down to your booster task! On the bright side, at least we know there are no SATs to sit this year so you can simply enjoy learning this week. Remember everything that you will be doing will prepare you for high school.

Take another look at your timetable, paper copy in your folder and I’ll also put it on the blog. However, just do as much as you can. Enjoy spending time with your family, help them wherever you can and remember be Ready, Respectful and Safe!

Date: 18th Dec 2019 @ 5:13pm

Wow! What a busy term we have had with fantastic trips to Safety Central and the Imperial War Museum and of course an amazing production of Aladdin. Thank you to all the children who have worked so hard to learn their lines, songs and dances. The acting was great too! It was a delight to see their smiling faces after each production. Thank you to the parents for providing the first class costumes and for the beautiful flowers for Mrs Whittingham and the staff enjoyed all the chocolate treats!

We would like the children to have a complete rest from school work over the holidays as they will have a very busy Spring term! Therefore, we are not setting any homework for the first week back. Spellings for that week will be revising the rules that we covered in the Autumn Term to ensure these are secure.

However, over the Christmas, we would like the children to save cardboard boxes and other materials that they think may be useful when we build our Anderson Shelters as part of our DT project in January.

We wish you all a very happy Christmas

Thanking you for your support
