SPORTS CAPTAINS 2023/2024

Here at Lostock we believe that physical activity has many benefits for both our children’s physical health, as well as their mental wellbeing. We know that children who are physically active are happier, more resilient and more trusting of their peers. We ensure that our children are as active as possible on a daily basis as this has been proven to ensure they have healthy bodies and minds thus improving their behaviour as well as enhancing academic achievement.

We encourage our children to have at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day, and ensure that at least 30 minutes of this is delivered during the school day through formal PE lessons, using our all-weather track, before and after school clubs, active breaks and lunchtime activities.

At Lostock we use our PE and sport premium to secure improvements in the following 5 key indicators and are guided by our school vision 'Children are at the heart of everything that we do and Christ is the light that guides us’ John 8:12

Engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity

Our Sports Captains ensure that our break and lunchtimes are as active as possible for all children by providing necessary equipment and by organising a variety of activities. Our classes also use our all-weather track on a daily basis and our KS2 children are provided with swimming lessons at the Brio Memorial Court in Northwich. We also offer a variety of extra-curricular sporting clubs.

Profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement

Our children are given the opportunity to apply for the role of Sports Captains, Health Ambassadors and can get involved in the Phys-Kids and Change4Life training programmes where they become young leaders. Our teachers and children enjoy a variety of active lessons and breaks using 5-A-Day Fitness and other similar resources. Our young leaders also work alongside our Junior Safety Officers to encourage active travel to and from school.

Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport

Through our membership of the Vale Royal School Sports Partnership, we are able to provide our staff with professional development, mentoring, appropriate training and resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively to our children. We also use qualified sports coaches and PE specialists to work alongside our teachers to enhance or extend current opportunities offered to pupils for example cricket, gymnastics and judo.

Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils

We use our PE and sport premium to introduce different sports and physical activities (such as dance, cricket, yoga or fitness sessions) to encourage more of our children to take up sport and physical activities

Increased participation in competitive sport

We are supported by our membership of the Vale Royal School Sports Partnership to increase and actively encourage our children’s involvement in a variety of intra and inter school competitions which has led us to receive the School Games Platinum award.
