Children are at the heart of everything we do and Christ is the light that guides us. John 8:12
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” We are committed to ensuring children encounter and achieve the highest possible standards through partnership with our entire school community. We provide a happy, stimulating environment rooted in Christian values. Our aim is to equip individuals with the Christian Values (courage, love, friendship, hope, forgiveness, and respect ) and life skills needed to "Live in peace with each other" (Romans 12:16-18), to take their place in the wider world and to make a contribution to it. Mark 9:37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.”
Hello, I'm Mrs Powell and I'm the Headteacher at Lostock Gralam Church of England Primary School.
On behalf of the children, staff, church and governors I welcome you to our popular Church of England village school. The heart of Lostock Gralam is our children who are nurtured and valued within our Christian ethos in order to achieve their full potential. At Lostock Gralam, we strive to develop the whole individual child and encourage our children and staff to be the best they can be. Our core Christian Values of Love, Respect, Hope, Courage, Friendship and Forgiveness are embedded throughout every aspect of our scool.
Our seven classes are attractive, stimulating and happy places to be. We have a dedicated and professional team of teachers and support staff who ensure that each and every child has a rich and positive learning experience filled with challenges and excitement. Children at our school do very well with many achieving beyond their potential in national testing. We believe that this is not the whole picture and that whilst attainment is important, education is about individual children being the best they can be.
“The aspirational drive to raise achievement has led to a culture of high expectations and an outstanding curriculum” SIAMS October’16
We are very proud of our school and its family ethos – underpinned by Christian values which were recognised in our outstanding SIAMS inspection, “A huge sense of community, a deep love of children and a passion for learning are at the heart of this aspirational and inclusive Christian family” (SIAMS October 2016).
This was also recognised in our most recent Ofsted report, "There is a strong sense of community at the school. Pupils feel safe. They said that their friends and the staff , look after them well. Leaders support pupils social, emotional and mental health needs effectively. They ensure that the school's vision to put children at the heart of everything is lived out on a daily basis." (Ofsted March 2022)
At Lostock we set the highest possible standards in every area of our bespoke curriculum and pay a high value to the crucial role personal, social and emotional development play in a child’s learning journey. We are proud to have an extensive PSHE curriculum embedded as part of our school.
"Leaders have built an ambitious curriculum. They provide pupils with many opportunities to learn about the school s locality. Leaders have designed the curriculum carefully so that pupils extend their vocabulary in each subject. Staff teach pupils new knowledge in well ordered steps as they move through the school. Most pupils , including children in the early years achieve well." (Ofsted March 2022)
"Classrooms are calm. This allows pupils to do their best in lessons. Teachers high expectations for behaviour are clear from the start children join the school in the Reception class. Pupils behave well. They said that their teachers act quickly and successfully to resolve any bullying." (Ofsted March 2022)
We strive to prepare our children for a fulfilling role in society and believe that the partnership between home, school and the community is central to preparing our children for the adult world. The ‘school’s excellent engagement with parents and carers and its highly effective use of a range of partnerships, all contribute significantly.
“Because of its distinctive, open, welcoming and affirming ethos as a Christian family, the school has a clear awareness of its central role at the heart of the parish and community pupils’ learning and to their considerable well-being” SIAMS October 2016
