Good Morning Owls. 

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and a well earned rest. We have enjoyed being out on the garden this weekend and the boys have been practising riding their scooters.

I am looking forward to the week ahead and I can't wait to see what you are going to do this week. I love seeing all of you on Tapestry.

I have attached a timetable that might help you structure your day but please do not worry if you do not follow it. It is just a bit of guidance to those who may want a bit of help structuring the day. As always, please do what suits you best. 

This week, I would like us to start doing our RWI phonics I know lots of you have been doing the daily speed sound sessions and have been very eager to start the Get Writing books. I have uploaded on Tapestry all the information you need for your group this week. If you are unsure of anything please just send me a message on Tapestry and I will help in anyway I can. I have also attached some Maths ideas for this week, please do not feel you need to do all of these activities they are just ideas of practical ways to do some Maths at home. I have included our number bonds song we use in class and a numberblocks episode too to support. You can do the activities in any order.  
Please remember these tasks are just ideas of what to do please do not worry if you do not complete these at all. This is a very new and challenging situation so being safe and happy is the main priority.

Wow its Friday!! Well done grown ups on surviving your first week at home-hope you are still hanging on in there! I think you are doing an amazing job!! I can't believe how busy you have all been this week and the wonderful things you have been up to!

After you have listened to the story, here are a few ideas of what you could do in your busy time today!

1-You could make your own kite using card, twigs and string.

3-Do you have any trees in your garden? Or can you see any from your window? Maybe you could draw me a picture. Are there any birds, blossom or new leaves growing?

Hello Owls!

What a busy day you all had yesterday. Wasn't it such a gorgeous day! We spent a lot of time in the garden enjoying the sunshine. 

Thank you for sharing all of the gorgeous things you are up to. I have seen lots of wonderful maths work, pictures, sunflowers, phonics and letter formation, baking and making cards. Well done everyone!

Hope you enjoyed the story I uploaded onto Tapestry yesterday for your bedtime story. I will post another one later with another special person you may know. Keep your eyes peeled later for another special story. I loved seeing pictures of your favourite bears. 

While the weather is so nice try and enjoy the lovely sunshine. My boys have really enjoyed chalking outside and looking for bugs in the garden. Maybe you could draw a picture and label some of the things in your garden in your exercise books or you could maybe choose an activity to do from your pack and share it on Tapestry with me. We are attempting shadow pictures (I have put a picture on Tapestry)

I have to say it is easier looking after 29 of you at school than keeping my 2 little boys entertained and busy at home! I miss you all and your smiley faces and think about you everyday.

Happy Wednesday to you all. 

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. We celebrated my little Leo's 4th birthday. It was nice to be able to spend the day with him. He loves Toy Story so he got a lot of Toy Story toys! Hope you are all enjoying your time at home with your special people and remembering our school rules. Ready, Respectful and Safe.

If you managed to take part in the phonics session yesterday I hope it went well. It is lovely to see the children keen to carry on with their normal routine.  They take place every day and follow how we teach at school.

Afterwards, tell your grown up and maybe send a video clip what your favourite colour is and why? Mine is purple because it is bright and I love purple flowers. Finally, can you find 10 objects that match yoir favourite colour? Don't forget to put them in a line to help you to count them and point to each one carefully as you say the number.  You could split your objects up into two groups and practise your number bonds to 10. (9+1, 5+5 etc). There is a sheet in the pack with different ways to make 10 which may support this activity if you wish.

I am currently in the process of putting together a timetable for Owls class to help us structure our days while we are at home to start next week. I have tried to link it as closely to our routine at school as possible. This routine is just a guide and feel free to use it as you feel appropriate or not at all! I don't want you to feel any pressure at all, just do what you can. You are doing an amazing job already! I will post it to Tapestry also. (Feel free to give any feedback/anything you want more help/support with.) I really want to keep our lines of communication open.  I don't know about you but we are using this week just trying to adjust to it all a little bit at a time!

I miss seeing you all each day ( also applies to Mums, Dads, Grandmas and Grandads on the gate!)

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday, It certainly feels strange not coming to school and Mrs Hoskins and I are both missing all of your lovely, smiling faces. 

Thank you for sharing some of the lovely things you have been up to.I am so proud of you all and how hard you are working already! It really made me smile to see some of you drawing, planting sunflowers, doing maths, learning to whistle, reading at home, taking part in the Joe Wicks challenge, leaning to ride your bike and make yorkshire puddings. Please keep sending in your photos and videos to tapestry. 

Its lovely to hear that some of the children are worried they are missing phonics! Read, Write Inc are doing daily phonics that you can access. I have attached a Daily Phonics guidance sheet to help you know which group your child is in and how to access the videos. Please can I ask that you do not start the Read, Write Inc Get Writing books yet. I will let you know when we are all going to start them so that we all start at the same time. I will let you know on the blog when you are to start using them and what activities in the book to complete. Thank you for your support with this. Please message me on tapestry if you are unsure about groups.

Good morning.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Wasn't the sunshine wonderful. It is great to be able to enjoy the nice weather. Long may it continue. 

This has been a very strange and unsettling time for our children and my main focus for this week is for you and the children to have time to adjust to a new routine. Be kind and give yourself time to adjust to a new way of working. I want to reassure you that for our youngest children 'playing is learning' so enjoy the magic, awe and wonder in their play. The real focus for this week is well being, both physical and mental so read stories, play board games and encourage their creativity. There will be plenty of time for phonics, writing and maths in the future.So, for this week I do not want you to worry about the packs that were sent home and instead enjoy spending tme together, readng lots of wonderful stories, playing with their favourite things at home, drawing, buildng models, playing outdoors, making dens etc. 

There are ideas in the pack of practical fun ideas to do at home and I have attached a few more nice ideas. At home, we are looking forward to keeping fit with Joe Wicks daily workout at 9am on youtube. Maybe you could try it this morning!!

The children are full swing into our new Refugee project in school and are enjoying our new class text, 'Something Else.'

In Literacy, we will continue to explore the story with a real focus on the characters feelings. The children are doing extremely well with their writing. We are having a real focus on writing a sentence with a capital letter and a full stop and the importance of holding the sentence we want to write in our head.

In Maths, we will be using a range of strategies to help us remember our number bonds to 10. We have started to use a number track to help us to add by counting on.

The children will be learning about the story of Paddington linked to our Refugee work and look at where Peru is and what it is like there. 

Parents Evening is on Monday and Wednesday. If you think you do not have an appointment please let me know.

The children are enjoying our 'Naughty Bus' very much and have produced some lovelt writing and pictures about all of his mischief!

Next week, we will be finishing our Naughty Bus story by drawing our own story maps and writing our own version of Naughty Bus. 

It is World Book Day on Wednesday, your child is invited to come into school dressed up as a book character. Please can they bring in their favourite story to share. We have lots of exciting activities planned for the day.

In Maths, we are continuing to learn about 3D shapes and begin to look at everyday objects which are 3D shapes e.g. ball, tins, dice etc. We will also be learning which 3D shapes roll and do not roll and why. 

The children love learning the new words that we discover in our stories so we are aiming to learn one new word everyday. We will share our words on Twitter so that you can discuss/talk about these at home.

Welcome back!! Hope you have a wonderful half term. 

On Tuesday, we will be reading the story 'Mr Wolf's pancaskes' and making our own pancakes and seeing if we can flip them! We will be writing instructions on how to make them afterwards. We will also be learning about the meaning of Shrove Tuesday and Lent.

In Maths, we will be learning all about 2D and 3D shapes and using mathematical vocabulary to describe them. We will be looking at what shapes roll and do not roll and why.

Wow I can't believe it is the last week before half term already. The weeks are flying by! 

The children enjoyed their London bus visit and the work that followed was amazing. 

In Maths, we have now learnt all of our numbers to 10 and we will begin to compare two and three sets of numbers using vocabulary such as more than/fewer than. 

In Literacy, we will be continuing to look at the journey of Naughty Bus and writing lists of the different food he has driven through. 

It is our come and join us session on Wednesday at 2pm. It would be lovely if you could come along!

It is internet safety on Tuesday so we will be learning about different ways to stay safe online.

This week we have a very special visit from a London Bus on Tuesday. We are very excited to learn more about London and the opportunities that the workshop will bring in our busy time.

In Maths, we will be looking at numbers 9 and 10 and using a 10 frame to see if we can count up to ten things confidently. We will also be looking at the relationship between 9 and 10 using one more and one less. 

In Literacy, we will be writing Thank you letters to the London bus company for our workshop and writing a recount using photographs about what we learnt from the visit. 

Tapestry Challenge- Shape hunt- Can you go on a shape hunt in your house/around the local area? What shapes do you see? Can you use mathematical language to describe them e.g. faces, sides, corners.Please upload your pictures to tapestry with what you found out.

Just a reminder that we aim for 3 reads a week. When you read with your child at home if you can please write it in the blue diary so that we know how they are getting on. Thank you.

The children are very enthusiastic about our new transport and journeys topic. They have been so busy drawing maps and making London buses. 

Next week, we will finish our London maps we are working on in groups for our new display and we will be using our new text 'The Naughty Bus' to write a sentence about who might be waiting at the bus stop for Naughty Bus! We are really focussing on our letter formation and thinking carefully about sounding out words when we are writing. 

In Maths, we will be comparing numbers 6, 7 and 8. We will be looking at different objects and deciding if it shows 6, 7 or 8.

Tapestry Challenge- as part of our new topic we are looking at different modes of transport. e are making  display of all the different types of transport we use and the journeys we have been on. If you use any mode of transport to go anywhere (car, train, tram, bus etc) please can you take a picture and upload onto tapestry so we can add to our display.

Owls class are working so hard at the moment and it is wonderful to see. 

Next week in Literacy, the children will be introduced to our new class text 'The Naughty Bus' after receiving their parcel last week. In the story, the London bus is the little bys favourite toy so on Tuesday, the children are invited to bring in a toy from home to share with the class. Please can this be something that can fit in their book bag and nothing electrical/expensive/contains lots of parts that can get lost! The children will use their toy to explain why it is their favourite and write about in Literacy, We will begin to think about what you might see in London and create our own labelled maps.

In Maths, we will be learning about number 7 and looking at the seven days of the week and colours of the rainbow. We will be recording the weather using a days of the week chart.

We are holding a Reading Meeting about how to support your child with reading at home. You should have received a letter in the book bag with more information. If you have any questions or do not have a letter just come and let us know. 

As part of our weekly blog, we will be setting a weekly tapestry challenge for you to take part in. Once you have completed the challange if you can please upload onto tapestry and we will share in class.  This weeks tapestry challenge is a 3D shape hunt. What 3D shapes can you find around your house? Name the shape and discuss the properties with your child using the vocabulary faces etc.

A big thank you from myself and Mrs Hoskins to say thank you so much for all the warm Christmas wishes, cards and gifts, We were both overwhelmed by your kindness. 

We are looking forward to welcoming the children back this week and hearing all about their Christmas news. 

This week, we will be finishing off our fairytale topic by designing and labelling a wolf trap for the three little pigs. In Maths, we will be exploring all the different ways we can split up the number 5 and begin to look at adding two single digits together.

Can you believe we are in December already!? How did that happen?

Rehearsals are in full swing for the Christmas Play and the Christmas tree is up!

Next week, we are going to be getting ready for Christmas with a letter to Santa. In Maths, we are consolidating all of our numbers we have learnt to 5. We have been using our fingers to show different ways we can make numbers and we are getting very good at writing them correctly.

We will be looking at goodies and baddies in different fairytales and their different charactertistics.

Next week is Nursery Rhyme Week in Owls class to celebrate world Nursery Rhyme week. 

We will be taking part in a range of activities, including counting spiders from Incy Wincy and sharing out of bags of wool from baa baa black sheep!

Our number of the week is 6. We are continuing to have a big focus on forming numbers correctly and looking at a set of objects and knowing how many there are (up to 4 objects) without counting. 

I am so proud of how well the children are getting on with their red tricky words. These are words that can't be sounded out so need to be learnt by sight, I will send home a list of the first set of red words we are working on in class.

We are having a real focus on writing our round letters and will be sending home a sheet for the children to practise. 

This week, singing practice is beginning for our Christmas play. We are so excited!

What a brilliant first week back we have had! The children have been working so hard.

I have sent home some of the red tricky words we have been learning this week in phonics. If you can please help your child to read and spell these it would be most appreicated. We are practising them every day in school. 

Next week, we are starting our new topic 'Will you read me a story?' which is all about fairytales. In Literacy, the children will enter the classroom to a crime scene which they have to help solve. This will help to introduce our new class text 'The Three Little Pigs.'

In Maths, we will beginning to sort objects and come up with our own rules to sort objects.

I can't believe we are at the end of the first half term already! It has flown by and I can't believe how well the children have settled and how much they have learnt already.

Thank you to everyone who came to parents evening. It was wonderful to share how well they are all doing and what a brilliant start to school they have had.

In Literacy, we will b continuing to make up our own stories based on peace at last and in Maths we will be learning about the number 4. 

We will also be learning about Diwali and how it is celebrated and linking it to celebrations that we share with our families.

Hello! Another busy week ahead in Owls class. 

In Literacy, the children will begin to think of other noises that may keep Mr Bear awake at night and use these to begin to make up their own narratives based on the Peace at Last story we have been reading in class. 

In Maths, we will be exploring the number 3 in greater depth and looking at stories and songs linked to the number 3. We will also be looking at different ways we can make 3 and learning more about triangles. 

We are very excited to be learning about night time animals and we have a very special surprise lined up for them next week. Keep your eyes peeled on twitter. 

Please record any reading your child does in their reading diary. We are continuing to focus on letter and number formation in school and we are practising writing our name everyday. If you could also practise at home it would be much appreciated. 

You should have received an appointment for Parents Evening on either Tuesday or Wednesday. If there are any problems or you are unsure of your time please come and ask.

Wow another super busy week in Owls class. We had an amazing time taking part in a fitness workshop this week and we now know lots of new sounds. 

You will find it the book bags a set of sound cards. These cover the sounds we have covered so far in phonics. Please practise these sounds with your child and begin to put the cards together to make words. E.g it sit mat sat pin. It is important that the children sound out each individual sound and then blend the sounds together to make the word. If you are unsure please come and ask. 

In Literacy, we are continuing to use 'Peace at Last' to help us with our writing. We will be looking at pictures from the story and beginning to identify the initial sound in some of the objects we can see and may even begin to write some labels. 

In Maths, we will be sorting into groups and will learn that collections of objects can be sorted into sets based on size, colour and shape. They will begin to understand that the same collection of objects can be sorted in different ways and will come up with their own criteria to sort objects, Our number of the week is number 5. Please help rite this number at home and count 5 claps, 5 toys etc. 

The children are really enjoying their night time topic. We will be learning why it is important to get enough sleep at night and making dream catchers.

Harvest Festival is at Church at 9:15 on Wednesday 2nd October. Can each child please bring a donation for the foodbank. You are very welcome to come and join us. We will be singing a special song.

It is  a 'Come and Join us' session also on Wednesday at 2pm. This is an opportunity for you to come and spend time with your child in the classroom.We would love it if you could come along!

We are so proud of all our Owls and how well they are settling into their new daily routine. 

We continue to have our phonics daily so please continue to practise letter formation at home. We are practising every day in school.

We have read our new class text 'Peace at last' and we will be looking at images  from the story and and trying to identify the inital sound. We will begin to look at pictures of Mr Bear's house and the different rooms. We will then try to draw a floor plan of our own house. We will begin to write some labels to go on our plans. At this stage, we will be looking at initial sounds and what the word begins with. 

In Maths, our number of the week is number 4. We will be looking at groups of objects to see if we can estimate how many there are and then counting to check. We will continue to practise writing numbers.

We are so proud of how well the Owls have settled into their new class and they had a fantastic first full week at school. 

This week, we will be starting our new topic 'What happens when I fall asleep?' which is all about nightime.  On Tuesday, we wil be having a pyjama day so the children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas for the day!(Favourite night time cuddly toys are also invited!) Please can children wear normal school footwear, as we will be going outisde. We will be reading a story 'When the World is ready for bed' and using it to discuss our bedtime routines. We will also discuss things that help us to fall asleep at nght and share them with each other. The children will then create a picture with their something happy to help them fall asleep. 

In Maths, our number of the week is number 3. We will be practising counting and writing numbers correctly.
