Good Morning Owls.
I am so glad to see the sun is back again.

I love seeing all your lovely walks that you go on. I know lots of you have been exploring and finding new places to go for your daily exercise, Have you walked past school on your walk yet? The window is getting so full. If you want to do something for the sharing window you can leave it in the box by the office or you can post it/email it to school.

Here is the link to carry on with this weeks maths lessons: https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/exploring-place-value-reception-wk4-4
You will need ten frames for the lesson so I have attached one for you to print (don't worry if you do not have a printer you can ask a grown up to draw them for you.)

I loved seeing you enjoying learning more about different habitats yesterday. Today, you can learn more about mini beasts and create your own at home. You could use junk modelling, Lego, natural resources like twigs and leaves. Please share your creations with me.
 https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/construct-a-minibeast-reception-wk4-4

Remember our challenge of making someone smile this week. Have you done something kind this week? What was your act of kindness? We are planning to put together a little basket of goodies for my Dad. It is his Birthday on Friday and because we cannot share it with him we have put together a basket of his favourite things with some pictures that Leo and Artie have drawn. I am hoping that this makes him smile.

I have a little something to tell you.... I forgot about the fitness challenge yesterday on the blog so will put 2 on today.
Day 8:Choose a song and create your own dance routine for the song. Perform it in front of your family. I used to love doing this when I was little!
Day 9:Pick up a ball from the floor without using your hands!

I hope you have a wonderful day today. Here is a link to the caterpillar song I shared with you. I hope that you enjoy it and can maybe have a go yourself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-zQ82yN68I

Squirrels are often seen hanging on birdfeeders, trying to grab as much food as they can. Sometimes they even hang upside down while they feed! Sometimes they fall off, but they soon come back again to try to get more! Often birds can’t get to the birdfeeders because the squirrels are already feeding from them! The poor birds have to wait, even though they are hungry! Sometimes they fly away and perch in the trees, watching the squirrels feed. When the squirrels have finished, then the birds can have their turn to feed, even though the seed and nuts are really put there for them. It could be that the squirrel is trying to keep the food for itself. It could be that the bird is challenging the squirrel for the food. It could be that they are sharing!
There are times in our lives when we all find it difficult to share! Christians believe that God has given us the world and everything in it - it is a gift from God that we are all to share with each other. Christians also believe that it is good to share what we have with others. We can share our possessions, food, money, friends, talents, even our love.

Date: 12th May 2020 @ 5:18pm

Morning my lovely Owls.
How did it get to Wednesday already! The days seem to be going quickly.
Thank you for sharing your ideas for the shed. Books, cushions and somehwere to draw and write are some of the ideas. If you have any more please let me know.

Here is the link for Maths today: https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/developing-a-sense-of-10-reception-wk4-3
I have also included a picture of a Go Fish game you can play with playing cards to help with your number bonds. You can also use 10 objects to help you work out the answer.

Thank you for sharng your habitats yesterday. They were fantastic! Some of you chose the rainforest for your habitat and today you can find out more about the rainforest. What is it like? What animals live there?
https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/rainforest-animals-reception-wk4-3

I saw a really nice noughts and crosses idea and thought you might like to play it at home. What is so good is that you can play with with words, sounds, shapes! Anything you like. I have included pictures to give some ideas.

Have a wonderful day and as always, please share on Tapestry with us. Remember we are so proud of you all.

In 1984, Chris Baines actually sent out an invitation to his friends asking them to meet him at 4 am. His birthday plan was to have all his guests listen to the dawn chorus together.  The dawn chorus is the singing of many birds before dawn each day.
This all happens about an hour before sunrise. At this time of day, it is too dark for the birds to search for food, but also too dark for them to be spotted by predators. There is less background noise, too, so the air is still and sound carries for a greater distance. There is a sequence to the dawn chorus. Robins, blackbirds and thrushes start first, which may be because they have biggish eyes to see in the dark and because they like to look for worms. After a while, all the other birds join in.  Have you noticed the birds singing?  I think it is lovely to think that we are all listening to the birds and enjoying their bird song even though we are apart.

Tuesday 12th May, by Mrs Campion

Date: 11th May 2020 @ 5:06pm

Happy Tuesday everyone.
What have you got planned for today? Leo is really enjoying playing games at the moment at home so we have been playing Wiggly worms (which is like Jenga) Frustration and monkey tumble (you have to try and get all the monkeys into the tree.) They are lots of fun and I am enjoying playing them with him. What are your favourite games to play at home?

For Maths today you will be ordering numbers up to 20. You can use the number cards I sent home in the pack to help you.
https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/ordering-numbers-up-to-20-reception-wk4-2
Afterwards, when you do your daily exercise maybe you could go on a number walk and see what numbers you can find.

As part of our animals work this week  you can do an activity linked to habitats and find out where different animals like to live. You can even design and make your own habitat for one of your teddies if you would like to. I would love to see all your lovely habitats.

Day 7 fitness challenge: stretch as high as you can!

am missing school and all of you very much at the moment. Mrs Hoskins was in school the other week and had a big tidy and sent me some pictures. Look at how tidy our shed is! We are hoping to make it into a little den! Maybe you could share with us some of the things you would like to go in it. Mr Ault has said he will paint it for us!

Thank you for sharing all of the things you are doing at home from phonics, to play dough, riding bikes and playing with bubbles. All of it makes me smile so so much!
Have a wonderful day and keep smiling. Super proud of you all.

This story of Steven Bradbury highlights the benefits of sticking with it in the long run. You never know what might happen.
Steven Bradbury was an Australian speed skater. He had been to 3 Olympic games already - he hadn't won a medal. Over the past 12 years of training and racing he had suffered some horrific injuries, during which he nearly died. He was financially struggling and had to borrow money from his parents in order to survive.
In the 2002 games he was the oldest competitor in the event. People didn't think he stood a chance, including himself. He had managed to scrape through the heats but had what he describes as the best race on the way when he finished second in the semi-final. He realised he didn't have the raw speed of the younger racers so he employed a tactic of just hanging in there. This worked and got him to the Olympic final.
What can we learn from this?
- Stick with it, who knows what might happen.
- You can get a huge sense of satisfaction and a big boost from trying your best.
- Just how much we can endure and overcome if we want to.
Bradbury trained for 12 years for the Olympics We can all benefit from his approach and learn his lessons if we get in there and have a go ourselves. Go on, go for it!

Monday 11th May, by Mrs Campion

Date: 10th May 2020 @ 5:24pm

Happy Monday Owls. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.
It was lovely to see so many of you celebrating VE day on Friday and it looks like lots of you had fun having street parties with your neighbours.
The sun seems to have disappeared for a little while, but remember you can still have lots of fun indoors too. It's a great chance to play with your favourite toys or read your favourite book.
I have attached some ideas of things that you might like to do at home this week. Remember these are only ideas, so do not worry if you do not do them all. This week, we will be looking at animals and their habitats.

All of your RWI activities have been uploaded on Tapestry and I have included a picture of the different timings that they go on. They are available to watch for 24 hours after they go live, so don't worry of you miss it and want to do it at a later time.

In Maths, we will continue to look at recognising numbers to 20. Today's lesson is counting and ordering numbers to 20 on a number line. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/counting-objects-up-to-20-reception-wk4-1

I miss us doing dough disco so much at school so I have included some information for your grown ups in case you would like to do it at home.

Day 6 of our fitness challenge: Walk like a crab for 1 minute.
I have also included as a challenge this week to create your own target game using objects at home.

I hope you have a fun day today. Keep smiling.
Sending lots of virtual hugs to you all.

Flowers

Have you planted your sunflower seed? All flowers are different and amazing, so, too, people are all different, but all wonderfully made. Just as flowers can brighten our day when we see them, so, too, each of us can brighten other people’s days by our care and our attitudes.

We thank you, God, for the beauty of flowers.
Giving flowers shows that we care.
Flowers can brighten our day and fill our hearts with gladness.
Please help us to be like flowers to other people,
Brightening their day and bringing joy to those around us.
Amen.

Friday
We remember the happy feeling that everyone had the day that the war was declared as being over but also the sadness that people had been through such difficult times.

Dear God,
Thank you for all those who fought to bring peace during the Second World War.
Thank you that peace eventually came.
Please be with all those who are living in areas of the world that are affected by wars today.
Please help us to do our bit in creating peace wherever we are.
Amen.

Today we would love to see what you are doing at 3 pm today. The teachers will be putting pictures on twitter, please put them on twitter or email us, so we can all celebrate together.

Date: 6th May 2020 @ 4:46pm

Good Morning Everyone.
Tomorrow, Friday 8th Of May, many people will be having stay at home street parties and decorating themselves and their homes in red, white and blue to represent the Union Jack. People in Britain celebrate today because it is a special day in history.

We have put together some ideas and activities to help you to do the same if you would like to over the next few days.
Please share all the lovely things you are doing. In my house today, we are hoping to decorate and make some bunting to put outside. There are some links to some bunting if you would like to do the same.

To finish off our Maths this week,  you will compare how much you can do in 15s, 30s and a minute. You can time yourself at home - how quickly can you put on your coat or run a short distance? Can you brush your teeth for 2 minutes in the morning and evening?

Message from Mrs Powell:
Thursday
Just over 80 years ago, the Second World War began. It was a huge war that involved most nations of the world. On 8 May 1945 at 3pm, Winston Churchill, the UK prime minister at that time, announced to the nation that the war in Europe was over. This meant an end to nearly six years of war that had cost the lives of millions of people and had destroyed families, homes and cities.

Millions rejoiced at the news that Germany had surrendered, relieved that the intense strain of war was finally over. In towns and cities across the world, people marked the victory with street parties, dancing and singing.  Can you imagine how it felt?  What could you make today for a street party? My Gran Peggy told us that she danced all through the night as she had really missed dancing!

Good Morning Owls.
How are you this morning? It was lovely to see some smiling faces on Tapestry yesterday receiving your special post. If you haven't received yours yet maybe it might come today! We finally got round to planting our sunflowers yesterday. How are your sunflowers? Have they started to sprout and grow yet? How tall are they? I would love to see.

I loved seeing your amazing calendars yesterday. Have you changed your date and weather today?Today, we will be carrying on with our Oak National Academy Maths where you will be learning all about the different seasons.

Message from Mrs Powell:
What did the world look like on VE day? What were people eating? Over the past few months, you might have had to eat something different because shopping is a little more complicated. What food did people eat on VE day? Lots of you have been growing your own fruits and vegetables; I’m growing tomatoes, herbs and strawberries and waiting to see if my peppers will grow! During the war, food was rationed so people grew as much food as they could. Another one of my Gran’s favourite foods was liver and she would make me and my brothers and sisters eat it all the time because she said it was good for us! We really didn’t like that but I like the ideas of some of these war time food; my Gran Peggy would have loved the liver casserole!

Here's some of the popular foods eaten during World War II and the sort of dishes that featured in VE Day celebrations.  Do you fancy trying any of them?
•    Dripping sandwiches with beef fat
•    Lord Woolton pie (cauliflower, potatoes, parsnips, oats)
•    Pork faggots with onion gravy and mash
•    Homity pie (potato, onion and cheese)
•    Corned beef hash
•    Liver casserole
•    Eggless fruit cake. Why do you think it was eggless?

Morning Owls
How are you all this morning? I wonder what you have planned for today?
Leo got a bike for his birthday so each day we keep trying to have a little practise. It is lovely seeing so many of you on your bikes and learning new skills at home.

I hope you are still enjoying our online Read Write Inc lessons. At this time, if you feel your Owl is confident in the set they are working on and can read every sound from the set in lots of different words both during the lesson and in reading books, they are then ready to move onto the next set. Please do not rush this, we expect children to remain on the same set and need to repeat sounds, this is totally normal.

On the Oxford Owl website, there are now some Speedy Green Word slideshows available to use at home. These slideshows are a great way to help with children’s fluency. There are eight slideshows covering all Read Write Inc levels available on the link below. You will see the slideshow linked to your child's colour book they are on. Please follow the link below and down to ‘Speedy Green Word Slideshows’. Visiting this website may also remind you of some of the other brilliant Read Write Inc resources available to support home learning..

In Maths today you can learn about the days of the week and make your own calendar. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/exploring-and-discussing-the-days-of-the-week-reception-wk3-2

Our fitness challenge for day 2: Hop around like a frog for 20 seconds.

Remember these are just ideas to help at home. Please do not worry if you do not do everything. Just do what you can, when you can.

Hope you all have a lovely day and remember I am so proud of you all.
Keep smiling.

Message from Mrs Powell: Please watch this clip and think about what we talked about yesterday http://tinyurl.com/qbkaq75  I love this story. Do you think Mr George likes cabbage now? Can you imagine how he felt? Victory in Europe (VE) Day marked the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945. Friday 8th May 2015 was the official 70th anniversary of VE Day. VE Day is another day that many people will never forget as it marked the end of a terrible war in Europe, though there was still fighting in Japan until later that year. Mr George’s memorable day was one of great danger followed by relief at still being alive. This is one type of memorable day although hopefully no one present will experience such a day! My Gran Peggy used to tell me when she had her very first orange as you couldn’t get them during the war; she used to make lots of marmalade as oranges became her favourite fruit! Mr George’s story reminds us that we all have special days that will stay with us forever. We don’t know when they will come or what they will be.

Today's lesson is talking all about your daily routine and acting it out. Here is the link to follow. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/talking-about-your-daily-routine-reception-wk3-1

I have included a 30 day fitness challenge on this weeks learning journey.

Message from Mrs Powell:
Good morning!  This week we are going to think about V.E day.  I’m going to tell you little stories that my Granny Peggy told me; she lived in London during the war and my Grandad was an RAF pilot.  First of all, I want you to think about a day you will always remember, happy or sad.  A birthday, a family event, something you shared with friends. Is there a special food that reminds you of that day?  My niece Edith is now 3 and I was lucky enough to visit her in hospital when she was a few hours old. I remember that gorgeous feeling, how hot the hospital was and helping my sister eat the chocolate I had brought for her! What special memory do you have? What reminds you of that? Some memorable days are happy and some are sad. Each of us will have our own experiences and our own reactions to them. There are as many different sorts of memorable days as there are different sorts of people.

Friday 1st May, by Mrs Campion

Date: 30th Apr 2020 @ 7:19pm

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to a new month! It is May already!
Thank you for sharing all the lovely things you have been doing. I love seeing all of your pictures and your fantastic paper planes you have been making at home. What have you enjoyed the most this week? I have enjoyed cooking more and us all being able to sit down for tea together each night,

Remember earlier in the week when we sang the special rainbow song and added actions? Today, I thought you would like to find out where rainbows come from and how they are made. Afterwards, you can make your very own rainbow. Please make sure you share them with me on Tapestry. Here is the link to follow https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/make-a-rainbow-reception-wk2-5

At school, we miss seeing all of your lovely work and pictures so we have created our very own sharing window at the front of school to display all your wonderful art work. There is a box in the entrance for you to drop off your pictures safely or feel free to email them to admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk.Hopefully the window will soon be ful of gorgeous work.

Log on to Tapestry later for another of my Friday stories. I wonder what I will be reading today?

I hope you all have the most wonderful weekend and hopefully the rain will stay away.
I will write to you again on Monday.

Missing you all and sending virtual hugs.
Remember we are so proud of you and think you are amazing,

You are amazing and you are doing something very special; by not leaving the house you are keeping safe.  We have talked about making one small change that can change the world and actually that is what you are doing right now. I’ve said this a lot but future children will be reading how you made the world a safer place by staying inside.

Remember what you are doing is amazing and we are so proud of you.  If you can, have a hot chocolate today. If not, have a cup of anything you like to drink and remember how very special we think you are!

Thursday 30th April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 29th Apr 2020 @ 6:03pm

Morning Owls.
Hope you are all well.
Yesterday, when I logged onto my computer a little reminder popped onto my screen to tell me that we would have been going on our trip to Manchester Airport. One special Owl did some research about the airport yesterday and I thought today we could do the same.
Why don't you have a look on the website at the different aircrafts they have. https://www.runwayvisitorpark.co.uk/visit-us/explore-our-aircraft/
Maybe you could make your own boarding pass or draw a picture of where you would like to go if you could go on a plane.  You could do this weeks challenge and make a paper plane.

We finally found some flour in the shops so we made numicon biscuits yesterday. It was lots of fun although a lot of smarties seemed to go missing during the making stage! (Leo and Artie kept eating them instead of putting them on the biscuits!) Here is the link we used to help us https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-lIRKq6BEw

I know lots of you are missing your family and friends at the moment (I am too!) I have put up a link on Tapestry with some ideas you can do at home and stories to read if you are feeling a little sad.

Thank you for all of your hard work at home and please keep sharing on Tapestry,

Morning Owls.
The weather has turned pretty miserable now. I wonder what fun you can have indoors today? Maybe you could do some colouring from your packs or play a board game? We have been doing lots of reading and jigsaws.
It was wonderful to see your pictures yesterday of what you want to do when you grow up there were so many different jobs. I saw some beautiful writing too!

There are so many beautiful rainbows in people's windows and today I thought you might like to sing the rainbow song and add some actions. I have added the link for you to follow. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/rainbow-song-and-dance-reception-wk2-3  Make sure you record your singing and actions to Tapestry so you can share it with me.

I have also added a balance challenge you can do with a toy at home. I wonder if you can share your super balancing skills with me? How long can you balance your toy for?

Have a fantastic day my lovely Owls and sending you all virtual hugs.

“No book ever ends when it’s full of your friends.” Roald Dahl

Do books ever end if you have really loved them?  Are there books you just love and don’t want to ever end?  We remember stories forever; I still remember reading The Enchanted Wood when I was little, and when I read it to my daughter Emily it felt like I was visiting friends again.  What book will you read when you are older?  Maybe you are being read a book that someone loved when they were little.

Tuesday 28th April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 4:59pm

Good Morning Owls.
How are you all today? It isn't quite as sunny as it has been but hopefully you are still managing to get outside to play or go out for your exercise. How are you getting on making your bed in the morning? Are there any other jobs that you can be helping with at home? I know how helpful you all are. Leo has been helping to make tea in the evenings and even doing a little bit of dusting!

Here is a special message from lovely Mrs Hoskins:
Good Morning our Superstar Owls.
I hope that you are all enjoying being at home, spending quality time with the special people in your lives. Alongside her homeschooling, my Ellie has been helping her dad and I around the house. We have absolutely loved being in the garden in the beautiful sunshine, and she has been learning about the different tools used for gardening. We have also been teaching her to cook and bake. She has made pancakes, omelettes and chocolate crunch and has even had a go at helping her dad make their own version of KFC chicken- it was delicious!
I am loving being able to spend time with my big girl however Mrs Campion and I are missing each and every one of you like crazy!! You all have your own little personalities and we are really missing having our little chats with you and playing alongside you. We are loving seeing all of the wonderful things you are doing at home, what are your plans for this week? In my house, we are going to be decorating the bathroom and our first job is to knock off all the old tiles- it is going to be super MESSY! You all know how in Reception, we love getting messy so I am really looking forward to it!
Keep sharing the fabulous things you are doing as it makes us smile. Sending the biggest hugs and hope to see you all soon,

I have found a lesson on the National Academy website which I think you will enjoy. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/people-who-help-us-reception-wk2-2
It is all about real life superheroes (doctors!) It also lets us think about all the people in our community who are helping us at the moment and all their special jobs. What is your dream job? You can draw a picture and write about it for me or act it out. Please share them on Tapestry. My dream job from when I was tiny was to be a Teacher and I am super lucky to get to do it everyday.
There is also a nice Maths activity on there counting in groups. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/sharing-objects-into-equal-groups-reception-wk2-2

Thank you for all of your hard work. I am so proud of you all and think each and every one of you is amazing.

“If you’re going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.” Roald Dahl

What could you read today?  I’ve realised that I’m always talking about reading but that is because books are brilliant and you can learn so much without realising it. You learn lots of new words, visit new places, learn new skills or just get lost in a wonderful story.

Good morning lovely Owls.
I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. We have been out in the garden again all weekend enjoying the sunshine and doing some planting.
What have you got planned for today?

I have put together some ideas for you this week of things that you might enjoy doing. Please do not worry if you do not get chance to do them all. Just do what you can. All of your new RWI activities I have posted onto Tapestry. It is wonderful to see so many of you enjoying keeping up with your phonics at home. I am so proud of you.

Remember, the activities in your pack you can do anytime so if you are feeling a little bored you could maybe do an activity from there.
Have you been on the Oxford Owl website yet? If you are wanting to do a little bit more reading I know you will enjoy these. Leo and I have been reading some at home on his tablet.

When you listen to a brilliant story or read a great book, do you think about the characters and imagine you are doing those exciting things?  What would it like to be Harry Potter, to go through the Gruffalo wood or visit Narnia?

Friday 24th April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 23rd Apr 2020 @ 5:13pm

Happy Friday Everyone!! That week I felt went very fast!
How are you all today? Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. It is lovely to see so many of you trying out the new RWI spellings on their page. You are all such superstars and I am so proud of how hard you are all working.
We did the tube challenge yesterday and Leo and Artie decided that they wanted to make binoculars so that they can look for creatures outside. They also like taking them on their daily walk.Maybe you could make some today?

We have been using the GoNoodle relaxation videos for a little bit of calm time in my house when we just want 5 minutes to relax. Here is one called Rainbow Breath which we really enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O29e4rRMrV4.

Leo and Artie are really into bugs and we have really enjoyed finding out lots of facts about different types of bees.Did you know bumblebees can sting more than once because their stingers are smooth and do not get caught in the skin when they fly away. Maybe could you learn something new about an animal today?

Thank you for all of your hard work and support this week. I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I will write again on Monday. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind, and the third is to be kind.” – Henry James

What have you done that is kind? What could you do today that is kind? Could you take a picture and put it on Twitter so we can all be kind like you.

Remember what you are doing is amazing and we are so proud of you. If you can, have a hot chocolate today. If not, have a cup of anything you like to drink and remember how very special we think you are!

Morning Owls.
How are you all? Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. It is so nice to see so many of you learning to ride your bikes at the moment. I love being able to share these special moments with you so thank you for sharing. I am missing my friends a lot at the moment so I have been trying to make sure I ring them so we can catch up. Maybe you could try and ring someone that you are missing.

We tried the roller skates yesterday.... it was a bit of a disaster and there was a lot of falling over but a lot of laughing too! I think I'm going to hide them in the wardrobe for a while!

I saw this online yesterday from @amazingpeopleschool and thought I would share it with you as I really liked it. The children's well being is so important at the moment and more important that anything else! I think there are some lovely activities that you could use to help build upon your lovely little one's strengths. Let me know if you try any.

Hope you have another wonderful day in this glorious sunshine.

As always please keep in touch and share all your lovely things with us. We love seeing all your happy faces.

Wednesday 22nd April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 21st Apr 2020 @ 7:47pm

Happy Wednesday my lovely Owls.

How are you all? Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. We had a bit of a lazy day yesterday. We watched a lot of Disney+ , read some books, pottered in the garden and played with the kinetic sand(for the millionth time!) I think sometimes we need those sorts of days!Someone bought Leo some roller skates for his Birthday so if we are feeling brave we might attempt them today... I think we may need full protective wear!!
What are you all getting up to? Please share with me on Tapestry I love seeing you all and it really makes me smile.

Grown ups- if you haven't had a chance have a look at the new materials released this week they are really good. I really like the Oak National Academy-https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/reception/#schedule
I found this lovely activity on there using things from your  daily walk/outside in your garden to make a face https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/my-face-in-nature-reception-wk1-5/
There are also extra Maths/extra writing activities on there if you are wanting some extra things to fill your day. If you feel that the EYFS maths isn't challenging your child feel free to use some of the Y1 materials where you feel appropriate.

Owls,I am missing watching Numberblocks together. At school we were up to number 11. I have put a link to the episode if you would like to watch it and maybe you could practise writing your numbers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcAc9-85ZEY

We are missing you so much. Please keep in touch and can't wait to see you all.

Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins

PS- If you would like to be a mystery reader please video a story and send it to me on Tapestry. If you have done one already and would like to do another one please feel free. Log in later for a special read from one of our special teachers at school.

Tuesday 21st April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 20th Apr 2020 @ 8:12pm

Good morning lovely Owls.

Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. We released 4 of our butterflies yesterday which was very exciting. I have shared some pictures with you. Leo was beyond excited especially when he was holding them. Artie was terrified!! (That is why there are no pictures of him!) Our butterflies were painted lady butterflies with orange wings. Have a look on your walks/in your gardens to see if you can spot any similar ones?Maybe you might see ours.

It was lovely to see lots of you doing some wonderful things yesterday such as sharing pictures of walks you are going on, learning to ride your bike and brilliant phonics.
How are your sunflowers getting on? Have they started to grow. I know some of you have planted them outside as they have started to grow. Please send pictures of your sunflowers I would love to see them.

Grown ups- A fantastic new website was launched yesterday called the Oak National Academy. https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/reception/#schedule  I had a look yesterday and there are fantastic resources to support Reception including Maths lessons, writing ideas and topic activities. They are delivered by teachers using videos and hopefully you will find them really useful. The writing activities are really nice to use alongside our phonics if you want to do something extra. The Literacy lesson does a little phonics input at the beginning. If you are doing the RWI daily speed sound lesson I would just skip this part of the video and just use the writing activity. There are lessons for each day of the week. Don't feel you need to do every day. It would be great to have some feedback on how you find the resources and activities.

In my house, we have discovered Jump Start Jonny for a little bit of exercise (Leo and Artie think Joe Wickes talks too much and they get easily distracted!) Jonny is a bit crazy but the kids love it! Here is a link to one of our favourites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Pz_R4aaDo  No need to thank me... you will be doing the moves all day!

Have a fantastic day and as always please keep sharing your pictures and videos on Tapestry with us and if there is anything else we can do to support let us know!
Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins x
PS- I have included a poem that I saw on social media that I love so thought I would share it with you.

Monday 20th April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 19th Apr 2020 @ 12:00pm

Hello my lovely Owls!

Hope you have had all had a wonderful Easter break. Hasn't the weather been amazing? We have spent so much time in the garden and Leo is becoming quite a bug expert! We are missing you all so so much and I am looking forward to you sharing all of your lovely things on Tapestry again.

Over the holidays, our caterpillars turned into butterflies and we are hoping to release them today. I will try and get a video to show you.

Grown ups-I have put together a few ideas for the week.I have had a little play and tried to put it all in one document as best as I can rather than lots of different documents. I hope this makes things easier to find.

For Maths, I have put some ideas linked to patterns. (I have attached a document below with some ideas- I couldn't fit them all on the other page!). I have also included a link to the White Rose Maths website it has some lovely videos and ideas linked to the story Supertato! (We love this story in my house!) https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/  Please don't feel you have to do it all/any of it! You may just want to dip in and out of different things that you think your child will like and enjoy. I have put all the links for RWI for your child's group on Tapestry.

As always, these are just ideas to maybe help fill your day but if you do not do them please do not worry at all and remember play, play, play. Playing and talking is so so important for our little ones.

Everyone being safe and happy is our main priority. You are all doing a fantastic job. If you need anything at all please let us know.

Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins. x

Easter Holidays Week 2, by Mrs Campion

Date: 13th Apr 2020 @ 8:48am

Happy Easter Owls class. Hope you have had a fantastic first week and that the Easter bunny managed to visit with some yummy treats.

Hasn't the weather been wonderful! We have spent most of the week playing in the garden.

This week, continue to have some rest and enjoy spending time with your family doing what you enjoy. If you want to do some little bits I have attached a document with some ideas or do some daily reading. Have you explored the Oxford Owl website yet?

Leo and I have really enjoyed 'The Odd Egg' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyathRuiwBY. Here is a link to the story. Afterwards, he enjoyed decoarting his own hard boiled egg and looking after it. Maybe you would like to do this?

I hope you have a lovely week and we will catch up again soon.

Stay safe and have fun;

Easter Holidays, by Mrs Campion

Date: 5th Apr 2020 @ 4:06pm

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Just wanted to pop on a quick message to say 'Thank you, thank you, thank you thank you!'. It has been lovely to see how everyone has embraced the activities on Tapestry. As well as hoping to support everyone at home with some ideas of things to do, you would not believe how much it means to see you all! Mrs Hoskins and I are missing the children dreadfully and it feels totally wrong not to see their lovely smiling faces every morning! I won't be uploading daily activities over the next two weeks, however, I will pop on a few ideas that you can dip into if you need a little inspiration.

With it nearly being Easter maybe you could use this week to look at the Easter story and do some Easter crafts. I'm hoping to make some Easter cards with the boys that we can post to friends and family. I have included two links to some nice child-friendly Easter stories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkNTU_Vv5Ew https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/lets-celebrate-easterperformance

If you would like to do some reading remeber Oxford Owl has lots of ebooks that you can look at including a range of RWI books for every group and other stories. (Don't worry about the writing books over the holidays!) Username:owlsclass2020 password: Owls2020

Hope you have a lovely week spending quality time together.

Please get in touch if you need me at any point over the next two weeks - We are always here for you and our children.

Please take care of each other, stay safe & have fun!

lots of love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins x

Friday 3rd April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 2nd Apr 2020 @ 5:44pm

I can't believe it is Friday again! Where did that week go?Well done to you all on another fantastic week at home.

You filled the week with lots of fabulous fun at home. Yesterday, it was lovely to see some of you sharing videos of you doing your speed sound lessons and lots of wonderful drawings and writing. Some of your sunflowers have started to grow which is very exciting. Please keep me posted. I wonder what you have planned today? I have promised Leo and Artie that we can do some baking today.

We went on an extremely long walk yesterday and have very achy legs today! Artie likes all the blossom on the trees. What do you see if you go out on a walk? It has been nice having time to do some of our favourite things at home and Leo and Artie have enjoyed playing with their favourite things! Maybe you could take photographs of your favourite things at home and send them to me on Tapestry?

Grown ups-I saw this lovely idea online for things to do when the children say they are bored at home(there are cleaning jobs in there too!) Might be something else to try at home.

I miss you all lots but keep sending your lovely pictures and videos to Tapestry. Keep smiling lovely Owls!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will catch up with you on Monday. xx

You will never have this day again. So make it count”

Message from Mrs Powell

Good morning children,

It may not feel like it but we are all very lucky to have each other.  What are you going to do today to make it different from yesterday, we never get today again.  What will you do today?  How will you use it?  Will you draw a picture?  Do some PE?  Help someone at home?  I’m keeping a diary so that I can remember how I made each day count, could you?

Stay safe and remember this: “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”

Thursday 2nd April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 1st Apr 2020 @ 4:21pm

Morning and happy Thursday Owls.

What have you got planned for today?

We are going to draw some pictures today for Grandma, Grandad and Granny. We haven't seen them for a while so thought we would draw some nice pictures and walk to the post box to post them today.

The weather isn't quite as sunny as it has been but we have still been trying to enjoy the garden as much as we can. The boys like digging in my sleepers to see what bugs they can find.

It is lovely to see all the lovely things you are doing, Some of you are doing some wonderful baking that looks absolutely delicious. Maybe you could send me some of your favourite recipes? Some of you have sent some lovely pictures of the writing you have done in your Get Writing books. It is wonderful.

Thank you to everyone who has sent a video for mystery reader. Is is lovely to share a different special Owl each night sharing a story for bedtime. If you would like to be one please send a video on Tapestry.

Hope you have a wonderful day and keep smiling Owls.

Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins smiley

Wednesday 1st April, by Mrs Campion

Date: 31st Mar 2020 @ 4:03pm

Wow its April 1st. Welcome to a new month everyone.

Yesterday was a very exciting day in my house because Leo received a butterfly garden net for his birthday last week and yesterday a very special delivery of 5 caterpillars were delivered to our house. We spent a lot of yesterday looking at them and we measured them with a ruler they are not even 1cm yet. They were half of a cm. I will upload the pictures onto Tapestry for you to see. We had to have a chat about how to care and look after them (especially Artie who kept trying to take the lid off them!)

You and your grown ups amaze me everyday with all the wonderful things you have been doing. You are all such super learners and I am so proud of you all.

One of our lovely Owls sent a picture of an elephant he made using a milk carton which links so beautifully to our story Elmer and the Rainbow that we shared last week. Here is the link if you want to have a look again.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPd9LopOXnM

I have added some pictures on Tapestry to show how you can make your own elephant.  I will upload a picture of Leo and Artie's later today!

Missing you all so so much. Have a lovely day and keep safe.

Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins.

Message from Mrs Powell

Dear children,                                                                                                                                                                            Where do you dream of going?  What do you want to do?  Just because we can’t visit new places doesn’t mean we can’t think about what we would like to do and where we could like to visit.  This saying also means you can do great things.  What great thing can do today?  This can be anything, big or small it is still an achievement.

Tuesday 31st March, by Mrs Campion

Date: 30th Mar 2020 @ 5:46pm

Happy Tuesday lovely Owls.

Thank you for all the lovely photos and videos you shared yesterday.

It made me  smile to to see some od you doing your daily speed sound lessons, reading your books, doing a little bit of writing in your new books, drawings of Paddington. A few of you I can see have learnt how to ride your book what an amazing achievement. Keep sharing.

Grown ups-please remember not to put too much pressure on yourself to get lots of work done. It is only week 2 and we are still adjusting to this new way of working. Please be kind to yourself. It is ok for the children to just have days when they are playing at home. I have been doing lots of playing with my two at home. 'Playing is learning.' The most important thing for us is that the children are happy.

I have put a link to this fantastic Early Years website with lots of ideas to do at home with our little ones: https://www.eyfshome.com/activities-by-day

They launched on Friday with a trial day all about 'My Home' and will continue to post some ideas each day. Maybe if you are stuck for ideas today you could have a look. I'm going to try some of them today.

Hope you have a wonderful day. It isn't quite as sunny as it has been but its not raining so enjoy some fresh air today.

Looking forward to seeing what today brings.

Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins x
