Happy Half Term Owls.

Good Morning.
Hope you have all had a good weekend.

As we enter the start of what should be another half term, and we embark on another, tenth, week of lockdown, we wanted to thank you all for the amazing work you have done to keep your children safe, support their home learning, and communicate with us here at school. You have done an incredible job and we want to make sure that you are looking after your own mental health needs in this time of uncertainty.
It is important that we take some time to do something that will make us smile. That will make our children smile and that will bring us together at such a tricky time. So have a look below at some of our suggestions and choose one thing every day that brings happiness.
• Enjoy a yummy breakfast together; pancakes, boiled egg and soldiers, bacon sandwiches or maybe your favourite cereal.
• Have a carpet picnic, or a garden picnic at tea time
• Make something that shows off what makes you special for the school sharing window and deliver it to school on Monday or Wednesday this week.
• Draw a picture for somebody in one of our local care homes
• Tell us about something you have done in lockdown that you’ve never done before. Have you learnt to ride your bike, or tie your shoelaces? Have you baked bread for the first time? Have you planted some seeds and nurtured them into flowers?
• Talk about your favourite things to do and have a favourites day. Eat your favourite breakfast, listen to or dance to your favourite song, sing your favourite songs together, play your favourite game, watch your favourite movie or tv programme, read your favourite book or comic, wear your favourite outfit, arrange a video chat with your favourite friends or family member.
• Find a new way of hugging! Right now, hugging is a tricky thing because we have to keep our distance. Can you find a new way to send a hug to somebody? Perhaps send a postcard, or create a picture or video of you doing something funny/showing off a new skill.
• Facetime, zoom, whatsapp – keep in touch with those people closest and most important to you.
• Create a calm box, a little like the Christmas Eve boxes that so many of us use, put your favourite snacks, pyjamas, movie inside and settle down together for a soothing evening.
Remember, we are collecting photos of you doing wonderful things during lockdown so send your photos into school so we can share them as a whole community.
Look after yourselves, be kind to yourselves and have a wonderful week.

Good Morning and a big Happy Friday to you all my lovely Robins J

Happy Friday Video Message:

https://youtu.be/vJ1dcr10u1k

All of the staff at school have been working hard to put together another video for you all. This time we are reciting the poem ‘The Great Realisation’. You can watch it here:

https://youtu.be/ms3Y8qC9zWw

Jenna Downing and Mr Russell have also put together a video for you… it’s a virtual assembly! You may remember Jenna as she came into our school a couple of years ago to deliver an assembly. You can watch it here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7MJlYa9yEA&feature=youtu.be

Thank you all, as always, for working so hard this week. I am blown away every day looking at photos of your wonderful artwork, baking skills, science experiments and lots more! Thank you so much to everyone who has shared a photo on Twitter this week – it really does brighten my day to see your lovely work and smiling faces!

Let’s start our Friday by writing down 3 things that went well this week or that you are grateful for. The happy memories or moments that you want to remember. I have started to record mine in a journal each evening so that I can keep them forever. Maybe you could do the same?

Our timetable is linked below if you would like some ideas for what to do today. Some of our lovely Robins have created some wonderful, relaxing pieces of artwork over the past few weeks. Why don’t you give this a go today? I have included some examples below:

Next week would have been half term in school so I will post just one blog on Monday morning although there is no expectation that you do any school work. It is time to have a well-deserved rest and hopefully we will be back in school together in the near future!

I think you all deserve a hot chocolate today!!!

Have a lovely weekend and half term everyone. Sending lots of love,

22.5.20 Starlings Class Blog - FRIDAY, by Miss Gillam

Date: 22nd May 2020 @ 7:34am

Hello hello!

Well I think I melted a little bit yesterday, it was so hot again! I hope you all managed to safely enjoy some of the beautiful sunshine over the past couple of days. It’s looking like it might be a little bit cooler this morning, get outside if you can! ☀️

To celebrate Hot Choc Fri this week, the staff have put together a little video of the poem called The Great Realisation. The poem explains all of the good things that have come out of lockdown.  I hope you like it! We love thinking of different ways we can let you all know we are thinking of you and missing you. https://youtu.be/ms3Y8qC9zWw

Please continue to follow our attached timetable today. I have also listed some additional activities that you might enjoy having a go at below. Enjoy!

Maths

Any two-digit number can be shown using tens and ones. For example, the number 34 can be partitioned into three lots of ten and four lots of one. Can you partition 2 digit numbers into tens and ones by playing the game linked below?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8sfr82/articles/zw4g2nb

Creative

  • Can you create an African Inspired Pasta Necklace?  Create a colourful necklace using pasta and paints.

  • Can you make your own Fruit Kebabs? Perhaps you could create a rainbow inspired healthy snack?

Reading

Can you read and spell our Year One Common Exception Words? Use these catchy songs to help you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R087lYrRpgY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NOzgR1ANc4

Faith at Home

Join the Oak Academy weekly collective worship session for this week, led by Church of England’s schools and in partnership with those of other faith traditions. Please select Week Two: Courage (primary).

https://www.thenational.academy/extracurricular/faith-at-home

No Outsiders

I would also like you to explore another beautiful picture books which focuses on our No Outsiders theme today. I have chosen a lovely story called ‘Egg’ for you to enjoy with your family today. Here is a YouTube link where you can listen to the story being read by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, the authors of the story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y73kXc4UiKM&list=PLE5MZB5pedUMQRHw2etfKDkufdGKDiPs

There are a selection of activities for you to choose from once you have listened to Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet reading you the story on YouTube. I would love to see some of this work from you. I really hope that you enjoy this, as this story has a really important message. I wonder if you can let me know what you think the message of this story is?

Please see activity booklet attached below. Drawing or writing your own version of these activities into your exercise book or onto a piece of paper is just as valuable. Please do not think that you need a printer to be able to complete these activities.

PE

I have attached a brilliant PE game for you all to play at home today or at some point over the weekend/holidays. The first player to complete 3 activities in a row in the winner. Have fun with this one, Starlings!

I know lots of you are feeling a bit fed up with being at home all the time now. Maybe today is a day to try something new? This could be helping with a job at home you don’t usually do, or maybe doing some home learning a bit differently? Instead of writing with a pencil on paper, why not try writing with some water and a paintbrush on the wall or floor (outside of course)! Let me know if you’d like any other ideas!

Whatever you choose today I hope you have a happy day because being happy is what matters most! Have a wonderful weekend and I will be in touch on Monday with some ideas for next week. Sending you virtual hugs and hope to see you all soon. We miss you and remember we are so proud of you all. You are such superstars!

Keep being amazing! ❤️

Friday 22nd May, by Mrs Campion

Date: 21st May 2020 @ 5:00pm

Good Morning Owls and Happy Friday!
Hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday. I am enjoying going on my daily walks and discovering places that I didn't even know existed right by where I live. I am going into school today and hoping to ring some of your grown ups at home that I missed last week. it is lovely to hear how you are all doing and all the things you are enjoying at home.

Here is another special video for you today from everyone at school. I hope you like it! We love thinking of different ways we can let you all know we are thinking of you and missing you. https://youtu.be/ms3Y8qC9zWw

It is hot chocolate Friday and I have attached a recipe for a cake in a mug if you would like to try it today.

I love seeing all of your 60 second challenges and how competitive you are! You are all super quick and it is great to see you continuing to try and not give up if something is tricky. Here is one you might enjoy today it is called catch and clap. Here is the link for lots more ideas if you would like to carry on next week. https://www.youthsporttrust.org/60-second-physical-activity-challenges

Have a day off from online Maths today and if you would like to do some Maths why not practise writing out your numbers. Remember how we were working really hard to make sure they are all facing the right way. I have also attached the outdoor maths ideas that you might want to try.

Next week is the half term holiday so I will not be writing everyday but I will check in with you all on Monday to give you some fun activities that you may want to do to keep busy.

Over the holidays, if you would like to do some reading there are some wonderful online stories that you can listen to. All you have to do is scan the code (remember the QR codes that we did in class) and it takes you straight to the story. I have included the ones for our age groups and more can be found on this website https://www.booksfortopics.com/storytime-online

I hope you all gave a wonderful weekend and I will be in touch on Monday with some ideas for next week. Sending you virtual hugs and hope to see you all soon. We miss you and remember we are so proud of you all. You are such superstars!

Happy Hot ChoFriday! We have the weekend, half term ahead of us and hopefully some sunny weather to enjoy, aren't we lucky?  To celebrate Hot Choc Fri this week, the staff have put together a little video of the poem called The Great Realisation. The poem explains all of the good things that have come out of lock down. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/ms3Y8qC9zWw

Some more great lessons for you today, a super art lesson about shadows too, take a look!

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2/#schedule

I thought that Friday's videos should always be a poem, so I have found a poem that I used to read at my old school over in Manchester quite a lot, I love this one. Just listen to all of the things the teacher tells this child to do. Imagine if I said those things, you would think I was crazy!! (Maybe you already do!!!) He he he! wink

Here is the link to my video where I read this to you. I am sorry about my terrible camera skills! frown

Please Mrs Butler

Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps copying my work, Miss.
What shall I do?

Go and sit in the hall, dear.
Go and sit in the sink.
Take your books on the roof, my lamb.
Do whatever you think.

Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps taking my rubber, Miss.
What shall I do?

Keep it in your hand, dear.
Hide it up your vest.
Swallow it if you like, my love.
Do what you think best.

Please Mrs Butler
This boy Derek Drew
Keeps calling me rude names, Miss.
What shall I do?

Lock yourself in the cupboard, dear.
Run away to sea.
Do whatever you can, my flower.
But don’t ask me!

Did you enjoy that? If you did, here is a link to the BBC site where a famous dancer that you may recognise reads the poem to you plus one other by Allan Ahlberg. There are some follow up activities for you here as well. This is aimed at Y3 children however I think that you are all super stars so will be able to complete these tasks.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zb2k8xs

I wonder how you have got on with your 10 spellings this week? Maybe you could have a "quizie quiz" like we do in school and ask your grown ups to check them for you. I have attached some great ways of practising your spellings at home. I won't give you any over the half tern holiday, I will put 10 more on my blog the first week after the holidays.

A couple of years ago, a sports personality, Jenna Downing visited us in school to share her story of becoming a professional skater.  She was due to return to school to tell us what she is doing now and to show us some videos of her excellent talent however because we are all at home, she couldn't come. So, she has done an assembly with Mr Russell who comes into school to teach PE. Take a look, it is really interesting.

https://youtu.be/-7MJlYa9yEA

Our No Outsiders story for today is We’re all wonders by R.J Palacio.

Here is link to the story being read https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhD5ZKH_Fy4

This story shows our No Outsiders message beautifully. We know that we are all different, special and unique and that is what makes us us. We are all fabulous in our own way and it is brilliant that we all look different. I have also attached some activities linked to this story.

Have a fabulous day Swallows, keep smiling. Remember that you are just great the way that you are. Each and every one of you brings something different to our classroom and that is what makes it a happy place to be. YOU ARE ALL WONDERS!

The definition of wise in the Oxford English Dictionary is ‘Having or showing experience, knowledge and good judgement’.  When have you been wise, maybe you have been lost in a shop. This experience should have taught you always to stay near to the grown-up you are with, or should have led to you to learning exactly what to do if you got lost again.   Being wise means learning from past experiences and carefully thinking about decisions that we make and things that we do now.  What mistakes have you learnt from?  I think we learn far more from the mistakes we make rather than the things that we get right!

Dear God
Please help us to be wise.
Help us to realize that there are consequences to everything that we do.
Please help us to make good decisions that will work out best for ourselves and for other people.
Amen

Happy Thursday Robins J

Click here for your Thursday morning hello:

https://youtu.be/7r0hGjqwgNs

Thursdays have soon become my favourite day of the week as it’s the day my family and I get together online for a big family catch up and quiz. It is definitely something we are going to continue with even when life goes back to normal! Have you started any new family traditions during this time at home? If so, I would love to hear about them on Twitter @LostockGralamPr

I know lots of you are probably spending more time on screens than normal; watching TV, playing on IPads and completing learning online. This is all great, however if you want to reduce your screen-time, I have attached a document full of screen-free ideas to keep you busy. There are 20 ideas in total, including creating an obstacle course, some lovely art activities and building a den (one of my favourite things to do when I was younger). Enjoy!

https://www.literacyshedplus.com/browse/browse/free-resources/key-stage-2-activity-packs - This is another great website - it has some really lovely short films and resource packs to use alongside each one, full of different writing activities.

Remember, whatever you do, do it with a big smile on your face.

“If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours.”

Have a wonderful fay Robins and I will speak to you all tomorrow! Big hugs,

Miss Beattie and Mrs Esling xxx

Buenas Dias Swallows

Here is my little video hello https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiF_JENzqAM

Did you all enjoy the sunshine yesterday? What a beautiful day we had! William and Thomas were set sports challenges all day from their teachers so we had planking, sock throwing, 'keepie uppie' and basket ball challenges in the garden, followed by pizza for tea. It was great! I wonder what you all got up to, I hope you had fun.

A little outdoor maths activity for you to try:

Try making a pavement trail for yourselves and others using chalk. Include some mathematical elements in this trail. For example, ‘cross the shapes grid by only stepping on shapes with less than 3 sides.’ ‘As you jump on the hands count in the sequence.’ Only count on the multiples of 10, jump on the multiples of 5, what do you notice? ‘Can you make it through the number jumble by only stepping on even numbers?

I have attached some photos of what this could look like. If you don't have any chalk, let school know and we can leave some out for you in the entrance.

Here is the link to our Oak Academy lessons. There is a super RE lesson there that focuses on Moses. He is a very important person in Judaism, which is the religion that we will be learning about after half term. So this is a nice introduction to him.

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2/#schedule

Our No Outsiders story today is "The Suitcase" by Chris Naylor Ballesteros. The author reads his story to us on You Tube.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmizwPXjcSQ

Blurb: When a weary stranger arrives one day, with only a suitcase, everyone is full of questions. Why is he here? Where has he come from? And just what is in that suitcase? A story full of heart, hope and kindness about how we treat those in need.

Swallows, I wonder what you would pack in your suitcase? The stranger carries only a suitcase as he leaves his home. In his suitcase is a cup and saucer and a picture of home. Why do you think he packed only those? Draw an outline of a suitcase. You can carry one photo and one object from your home; what will you take? Explain your choices.

Good Morning Owls.
How are you today?I hope you have a lovely day today. It is another sunny one so hopefully you can enjoy some sunshine.

I love seeing all of your 60 second challenges. I wonder how many star jumps you can do in 60 seconds? Maybe you can compete against a family member!

Todays maths lesson is a recap of some of the things you have been learning at home: https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/review-lesson-a-maths-meeting-reception-wk5-4#slide-2

Have a look at our 'Egg' story from this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y73kXc4UiKM&list=PLE5MZB5pedUMQRHw2etfKDkufdGKDiPsU  This brilliant story is all about eggs…. But could it be about something else? How about bananas? Look at the page where we first meet the eggs. ( I have included it as a picture) Draw your own version using bananas. You will need to draw eyes and arms and legs on each banana and show the last banana looking a bit different. Can you think of a different fruit or vegetable to use? Draw and label your own picture of 7 fruits or vegetables, with the last one looking different. I can't wait to see what you decide to draw. You can either draw it on a piece of paper or print this sheet to help you.

I know how much you all enjoyed learning about Transport. If you would like to do some singing today and learn the transport song here is the link. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/transport-song-reception-wk5-3

Remember our daily fitness challenge. We are on day 14 an today you need to skip for one minute!

Have a fantastic day Owls and keep smiling. We miss you and are proud of you.

Good morning my gorgeous Robins and Happy Wednesday J

Today I have decided to read you all a poem that I thought was really funny. I hope it makes you smile too:

https://youtu.be/Wu4zcZFUFJk

Teddy made a special appearance in school yesterday. He absolutely loved it and enjoyed running around the playground and field!! Look:

It’s the middle of the week already! I hope you have all had a good week so far and are ready for another busy day! I hope you are also enjoying spending lots of time outdoors where possible… my morning and evening walks with Teddy are my favourite part of the day!

I have attached our timetable with our daily tasks on there. Today I would like you to start or continue with your Ancient Civilisation Study. Choose one of the ancient civilisations and research where, why and when they settled and what they achieved. You could present your findings in a booklet, poster, PowerPoint or video. There are lots of useful links on our Home Learning Timetable to help you.

Have a lovely day! Stay safe and keeping smiling,

Message from Mrs Powell:

Today I am going to introduce you to a very special person called Theresa. She lived more than 140 years ago.  She was born on 2 January 1873 and died on 30 September 1897, at the young age of 24. Her mother died when Theresa was just four years old, leaving her father with five children to look after. One of her sisters, called Mary, took over running the household, while her eldest sister, Pauline, took charge of telling the younger children about God.  When she was 14, Theresa decided that she wanted to dedicate her life to God, so she became a nun (someone who goes to live with others who give their lives to God). Theresa was made a saint in 1925. A 'saint' is a person who is a great example to us because he or she lived a special life and/or had special gifts.  Although Theresa didn’t have a very long life, she used every minute she had to care for other people. Her best-known saying is, ‘What matters in life is not great deeds, but great love.’ Theresa became known as someone who would show love to others by doing little things. Sometimes she gave flowers, sometimes she prayed, sometimes she showed love and attention to people who struggled with problems. Theresa knew that she wasn’t physically strong enough to carry out great deeds, but she made a big difference to people’s lives by the little things she did for them. Very often, though, it's the little things that have the greatest effect on people’s lives, the little things which show them someone cares.

Time for reflection:

Close your eyes and think about a little thing someone has done for you that made you feel special or happy. It may have been a kind word, asking you to play with them or even giving you a special present.

Decide to do something today that will make someone else feel special.

Dear God

Thank you for people who do things for me that make me feel happy and loved.

Please help me to do something today to show someone that I care about them.

Amen

20.5.20 Starlings Class Blog - Wednesday, by Miss Gillam

Date: 20th May 2020 @ 8:21am

Good morning my lovely Starlings,

WOW! It is Wednesday again already and we are half way through yet another week. How are you? I hope you are feeling happy, safe and well. I hope you had a fabulous day yesterday and managed to keep busy and enjoy the sunshine. I think it is going to be another lovely sunny day today, fingers crossed.

Guess who I got to meet in school yesterday? You are going to absolutely love him Starlings. Teddy is going to make the most wonderful member of our lovely Lostock Gralam team. He loves playing with the grass on the field, chasing balls and lots of attention.

I love this quote about kindness being contagious. Contagious means that a feeling is likely to spread to and affect other people. Have any of you made a start on any of the kindness activities for Mental Health Awareness Week? You can find out some more about what that means and the importance of kindness on Newsround. Keep sharing all of the lovely things that you are going, you never know, it might just inspire somebody else to do something kind for their loved ones.

Newsround -  https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52557800

  • How did it feel when you were kind to someone else?
  • Did it make you feel happy?
  • Did they do something kind in return?

No Outsiders

I would also like you to explore some beautiful picture books this week that focus on our No Outsiders theme, that is so important to us in school. I have chosen a lovely story called ‘Grumpy Frog’ for you to enjoy with your family. Here is a YouTube link where you can listen to the story being read by Ed Vere, the author of the story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfRkj4pnSZM

There are a selection of activities for you to choose from once you have listened to Ed Vere reading you the story on YouTube. I would love to see some of this work from you. I really hope that you enjoy this, as this story has a really important message. I wonder if you can let me know what you think the message of this story is?

Please see the activity booklet attached below. Drawing or writing your own version of these activities into your exercise book or onto a piece of paper is just as valuable. Please do not think that you need a printer to be able to complete these activities.

Do you remember when we performed ‘Read all about it’ by Emeli Sande as part of our Christmas play last year? We all held beautifully made newspapers with special words written on them, celebrating the fact that we are all different but all equally special, important and valued. Would you like to sing with me? Here is the link to our special song, perhaps you could make your own little newspaper to dance with?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNGEsU-BbHc

Maths

Perhaps you could enjoy completing some Maths work in your garden or while out and about on your walk today? Surveys can be great fun.  You could observe cars and other traffic on a nearby road. Decide on some categories to collect data on or you could even challenge your Starling to come up with their own question to answer e.g. what is the most common colour car. The children should gather the information and could then have a go at representing it in different ways.

Please continue to follow our class timetable and task list attached. Are you still enjoying your Oak National Academy and BBC Bitesize lessons? You might now notice that you prefer one resource to the other and choose to follow the sequence of lessons. This would be particularly useful for the writing lessons on the Oak National Academy website. If you have missed sessions, you can still go back to session one to ensure that each activity makes sense, as they do sometimes refer to learning from previous sessions.

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch with photos, messages and questions this week. Remember, if there is anything you need, I am here to help.

What a sunny day it is! Let's have a fabulous day in the sunshine today. I want you to just have fun and enjoy this glorious weather. If your grown ups do want you to do a little bit of work you can work on your spellings for 15 mins. The words are :

beautiful, school, difficult, children, really, pretty, great, again, every, busy.

You could learn these outside. Have you got chalk to write them on the path? Maybe you could take your paper and pens out and practise writing them in different colours. Test your grown ups on these words, see if they can spell them correctly?

We have lots of Science to look at this week still, all about aeroplanes.

This is also a pefect day for reading outside in the beautiful sunshine. Perhaps you could listen to another No Outsiders story on Youtube? Try thisone today, it is brilliant!

Transition message from Hartford

Dear Parents/Carers,

During this difficult and uncertain time we would like to help our Year 6 students and their families as much as possible. Many students will now be starting to think about their move to secondary school and how they can best prepare in the coming months.

As such, we are recommending a free course called 'Secondary Ready'  by Numerise which is designed to prepare Year 6 learners for joining school in Year 7. The content and course will help to keep children mathematically fresh over this period and is free-of-charge until September 2020.

To sign up click on the link below and register first as an adult (check your junk mail if you don't receive the verify email link). Once registered you can add learners in the 'manage accounts' section.

Wednesday 20th May, by Mrs Campion

Date: 19th May 2020 @ 3:12pm

Good Morning Owls.
I think today is going to be a hot day. If it is maybe you could enjoy spending some time today in the sunshine. You could maybe play with the water. Remember to keep safe in the sun though. My boys always get fed up of me making sure they have their hats on and their sun cream!
It was great seeing you join in with the 60 second challenge. Here is a new one you could try today. It is called socks in the box. There is a long list of different challenges you can do. https://www.youthsporttrust.org/60-second-physical-activity-challenges

For maths we will be looking at different ways to share numbers up to 20 and if you can share a number equally. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/investigating-number-combinations-within-20-reception-wk5-3

On Monday, we looked at the story 'Egg' Here is the link if you would like to watch it again
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y73kXc4UiKM&list=PLE5MZB5pedUMQRHw2etfKDkufdGKDiPsU
The eggs in the story have the same pattern using two lines and a zig zag. Shall we give the eggs different patterns to choose from? Ask a grown up to draw you some egg templates and then you can create your own egg patterns so that all the eggs know they don’t have to look the same.

Daily fitness challenge day 13: lay on your back and paddle your legs like you are on a bike.

Have a wonderful day in the beautiful sunshine. We miss you and are so proud of you all.
Love Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins x

Time for reflection
Close your eyes and think about a little thing someone has done for you that made you feel special or happy. It may have been a kind word, asking you to play with them or even giving you a special present.
Decide to do something today that will make someone else feel special.

Dear God
Thank you for people who do things for me that make me feel happy and loved.
Please help me to do something today to show someone that I care about them.
Amen

Buenas Dias Swallows

How are you all? I hope that you are happy and smiley. Did anyone try any of the science activities based around aeroplanes? Let me know how you get on with these. If you follow this link, there are plenty of activities that will last you all week such as making papaer aeroplanes, learning about who Amy Johnson was, the job of a pilot and learning about what air traffic control peple have to do at the airport. Take a look:

https://www.funkidslive.com/learn/homeschool/aviation-mission/

It was lovely to hear that some of you watched our No Outsiders story "Odd Dog Out"  being read on youtube. Hopefully you received the activities that link with this by email yesterday? Today's No Outsiders story is "Dogs don’t do ballet" by Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie, we have this one in school you may have seen it?

Today, the actual author reads the story for us, how special is that? I will attach the activites for you, there are lots to choose from.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7BoyAJOYcE

Whilst out walking or riding today you could ty this maths activiity:

Using the numbers on a road sign what is the largest number you can make? You can use a range of operations (add, subtract, times or divide) and combination of numbers. Younger children could add the numbers, older children could add and multiply using different combination of numbers (so the sign that says "Audlum A529"  could become this calculation 5x2x9 or 52x9 or 5x29)

Our Oak Academy lessons today are based on making inferecnes in reading which you are great at doing, more fractions in maths and even learning to say how you feel in Spanish!

A message from Mrs Powell

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.

Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”

The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”

The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

We all have the opportunity to help create positive change. You might not be able to change the entire world, but at least you can change a small part of it, for someone. Break the big challenge down into smaller pieces and then take those one at a time – like one starfish at a time. Remember you can achieve anything!

Have a super day Swallows. I am thinking about you all every day and remembering happy times that we had together in our classroom. I know that it has been ages and ages since we were all together and that makes me sad but knowing how safe and happy you all are at home is so important. Keep being brilliant my lovely Swallows.

Good morning my lovely Robins J

How are you? I hope you are all well and remaining positive!

I have recorded a little good morning message for you all before I go into school this morning. You will have to excuse my puffy eyes and stuffy nose; my hay fever has been bad this morning: https://youtu.be/KrXFW_GdDpU

I know lots of you have been practising your times tables at home – this is a really easy but important job that I would like you to try to do for 10 minutes each day. You could go on TTRS, Hit the Button or any other online game (there are lots to choose from!) I have also attached some fun times table worksheets today that you could print or copy out at home.

Our class timetable is attached as always with more ideas on what you can do to keep busy today. If you haven’t already looked at the First4Maths resources, I am attaching them below again – There are lots of fab maths ideas that you can do in your garden, on your walk or even while cooking or playing Lego!

If you have any questions or need anything at all, please get in contact via the admin email: admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk

Have a super day! I know you will all work really hard!

Big hugs and lots of love,

19.5.20 Starlings Class Blog - Tuesday, by Miss Gillam

Date: 19th May 2020 @ 7:08am

Good morning Starlings

I hope you had a lovely day of home learning yesterday and managed to complete some of our 44 ways of being kind. Mrs Southern completed a random act of kindness by writing a lovely little message for each member of her family. What act of kindness are you going to do today? Don’t forget to share your kind gestures on Twitter.

Please continue to follow our attached timetable and task list today. Below are some other activities that you might like to try today.

Reading

Open the document below ‘ea Phoneme Spotter Comprehension’. Read the letter on the left hand of the page. Then, answer the questions 1-4. The focus sound is ‘ea’. Here is a video to recap this sound (I know how much you all love Geraldine!)

ea - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6F4KRdhqak

Creative

Design a menu for your dream day of food. Think about what you would have for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks and drinks.

Songs

Here are some of the songs that we enjoyed together when we were in school. Please revisit and recap our previous learning. They are very helpful, and I bet you could show your grown up's what you know.

Science

  • Can you sort animals by what they eat? Please revisit the science words herbivore, omnivore and carivore. What do these words mean? Play the game by selecting if an animal is a herbivore, omnivore or a carivore.

https://www.sheppardsoftware.com/content/animals/kidscorner/games/animaldietgame2.htm

  • I have attached another great set of Science experiments to conduct with kids at home. These fun and easy science experiments are great to do at home because they require ingredients you are likely to already have in the kitchen. The pack contains four different science experiments including a dissolving experiment, make your own lava lamp, fun with density and fireworks in a glass. Perhaps you could be a pirate today and complete one of our ‘Pirate Science Experiments’ at home?

Maths

  • Can you play the attached 2D shape game? I wonder who will win by getting 4 in a row first?

  • For those of you who enjoyed sorting the number sentences yesterday, I have attached an exciting number bonds to 20 sorting game for you to complete today. Remember to use your number line or objects to help you to calculate accurately.
