Good morning Toucans.

I hope you got the chance yesterday to try out some of the new reading resources that I suggested below. I will leave them there for you to have a look today if you didn’t.

 Maths

FRACTIONS – comparing fractions - Please follow the attached PowerPoint and listen to Mrs Whittingham’s audio recordings to explain each slide.

Please watch this video if you can’t access the audio on the PowerPoint. Remember to just pause it when needed and you can play back too if required.

https://youtu.be/Urqj8d4sWhc

Remember to take a look at some of these Maths games to revise key facts on fractions.

I was delighted to see so many mathematicians have a go at the extra challenge yesterday so I have attached another one to the blog for you today. It involves adding and subtracting fractions to complete the pyramids. I will look forward to seeing who takes up this challenge. Remember this is an optional extra, you don’t have to do it and there are some challenge questions already on the PowerPoint.

  Times Tables

Recap all your times tables using TTRockstars   https://ttrockstars.com/   Where can you get to on the leader board today? We have been so impressed with your daily scores.

Writing – A postcard from India

  • Know the difference between fact and opinion
  • Practice using the punctuation brackets and dashes

See the Power point attached. Like the Maths, Mrs Downing has recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do.

Please have a look at the following link about facts and opinions:

Please watch this video if you can’t access the audio on the PowerPoint. Remember to just pause it when needed and you can play back too if required.

  Reading

Toucans, we would love you to read a little each day of the school book you have or a book you have been reading at home or an edition of First News.

Take a look at the new library resource that the Oak Academy has provided. Each week they will provide a free book for you to read and you will learn more about the author.

https://library.thenational.academy/

This week the book to read is The Girl Who Stole an Elephant by Nizrana Farook

If you continue to record your reading in your diary and get an adult to sign your diary each time you read, you will still be able to collect your raffle tickets when we are back in school.

Here is another great resource to access lots of Reading Books.

Our FREE Storytime Online resources are still available to all via our website. Children use a QR code to access a range of stories being read by their authors. The link is: https://www.booksfortopics.com/storytime-online

Spellings

This week we will be looking at the spellings ei and ie.

We will focus on our final word today -  mischief

Could you try and write a silly short story using this word at least 5 times?

e.g. Yesterday, I heard some mischief upstairs. When I went up, I knew the little girl was up to something. Her face was full of mischief! You need to keep a close eye on these little people as they love mischief. Morning, noon and night, nothing but mischief. As soon as I turn my back, more mischief!

I have also attached a spelling activity for you to do. Check any spellings you need to using a dictionary.

Here is the link to an online dictionary - https://www.dictionary.com/

Spelling words:        ceiling, shriek, perceive, relief, receive, piece, protein, achieve, niece, mischief

 Worship

Here is last week’s one for you to also have a go at.

  #2021FitnessChallenge

Can you set up a fitness circuit course in your garden?

E.g. a spot for 10 star jumps, somewhere to run for 5 mins, maybe skip for 1 minute (you don’t need a skipping rope, just do the hand actions), throw and catch a ball whilst clapping between each catch etc. I’m sure you can come up with lots of ideas and I look forward to hearing about your fitness circuit on our Discussion today.

Have a great day everyone. Remember to use the Discussion page on School Spider to chat to us about your work today and upload your homework please for us to give you individual feedback on.

Best wishes from Mrs Downing, Mrs Whittingham and Mr Beswick.
