Hello Starlings and welcome back to our weekly class blog.

Last week we had a wonderful return to school following the half term break and we have been very busy learning and having fun in the sunshine!

English

In writing we have started our brand new text ‘Toys in Space’ by Mini Grey. We have been introduced to the different characters and have been using the very important skill of inference to think about how the toys might feel and what they might be thinking. We then wrote sentences to share our ideas, using the word ‘and’ to join more than one idea in a sentence.

This week we will be learning to punctuate sentences with ? ! and .

We will also be comparing the different characters from the book.

Maths

In Maths we have been learning all about numbers to 50. We can now count to 50 and find missing numbers to 50, and we can use part part whole to represent numbers to 50 by using tens and ones.

This week we will be counting in twos, and then using < and > to compare sets of objects.

Topic

Last week we learned all about The Flying Scotsman, we found out where it got its name from, plotted where it travelled on the map, talked about the impact it made on people’s lives and measured out its length.
