Skylarks W.B. 7.6.21 (After Half Term)

Date: 26th May 2021 @ 9:19pm

Hello everyone

Welcome back to our weekly blog ? I can’t quite believe we are at the end of another half term in school and what a fantastic half term it has been!

Important Reminders:

This Friday 28th May, the photographer is in school. As this is our PE day, please send your child to school in full school uniform with trainers on their feet.

On Tuesday 8th June Skylarks are going on their trip to Tatton Old Hall to find out more about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Please make sure your child is in school promptly on this day. They must wear full school uniform and bring a raincoat with them. They must also bring their lunch in a disposable bag as all rubbish will be thrown away after eating (the children will not be bringing a bag or lunch box with them on the trip).

Please call the school office before half term if you have any questions or queries regarding this trip.

Learning after half term:

When we return to school after half term, we will be looking at our new text ‘The Darkest Dark’ by Astronaut Chris Hadfield. We will begin by using clues to predict the text, before using pictures from the book as a stimulus for writing a setting description.

Our reading lessons will also focus on a new text ‘Exploring Space’. We will begin by reading about the International Space Station and thinking about how the text is organised and structured using different features (e.g. headings, subheadings, fact boxes, etc.)

Our space theme will continue in our science lessons where will be exploring our new topic ‘Earth and Space’ in more detail. We will use a model of our solar system to help us understand that it has 8 planets. We will also look at the position of the sun and Earth to help us explain the concept of day and night.

In maths we will continue to develop our understanding of fractions. We will look more in depth at the relationship between fractions and division, and will also order and compare fractions based on their size.

As part of our topic work we will be using our trip to Tatton Old Hall to expand our knowledge and understanding of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking periods. Our topic day when we are back in school will focus on Viking artwork which we will analyse to help us find out more about their identity. We will then use our sketching skills to replicate this style of art.

In RE, we will continue to explore our theme of ‘Forgiveness’. We will listen to The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant (Matthew 18:21-28), before looking at modern-day scenarios where would should show mercy to each other.

Our PE days for the last summer half term will be Thursday and Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

Homework

The children should complete page 29 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 11th June. This homework is looking at ordering fractions and the children will need to use their knowledge of finding equivalents to help them.

Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their maths homework.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 11th June will look at the suffix -ent:

confident, absent, different, patient, magnificent, efficient, decent, intelligent

Have a fantastic half term everyone. Remember to show our Christian values in all that you do ?
