Date: 11th Mar 2021 @ 12:40pm

Hi everyone 😊

Welcome back to our weekly blog where you can keep up to date with Skylark’s learning in school, homework and class announcements.

Skylarks have had a wonderful first week back in school. It has been lovely to see their smiling faces and hear our classroom full of laughter again.

This week, we have started our new book ‘The Lost Happy Endings’ by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray in English and have made predictions based on the front cover and considered the new character we have been introduced to. In maths we have been learning about multiples, factors and prime numbers. We have also continued to consolidate our knowledge of long multiplication from our home learning.

We have also celebrated British Science Week this week by finding out about famous scientists, carrying out experiments and creating our own innovations. The children might to explore the following website more at home to further our learning about the Mars Rover in school: https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/mars/overview/

Next Week (W.B. 15.03.21)

Next week in English, we will continue to explore our new book ‘The Lost Happy Endings’. We will be developing our writing through shared and guided writing to describe both characters and settings.

In our reading lessons, we will use our ‘Hansel and Gretel’ text to identify the common themes in fairytale stories.

In maths, we will be learning about square and cube numbers, whilst also continuing to practice long multiplication.

In RE, we will finish our topic on ‘Incarnation’ by recapping the titles given to Jesus and discussing whether they are still helpful for Christians today.

In Science, we will continue to learn about ‘’Materials and their Properties’. We will carry out an experiment to determine which materials are soluble and which are insoluble.

Our PE days this half term are Thursday and Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days.

Homework

Maths homework will resume after the Easter holidays.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables for 5-10 minutes every day.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 19th March will look at words containing the suffix -able:

Understandable, breakable, suitable, enjoyable, noticeable, changeable, adorable, reliable, enviable, bearable

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
