Thursday 14th January

Hi Skylarks and happy Thursday 😊

It was so lovely to speak to lots of your parents yesterday and hear how hard you are all working at home. You all make me feel very proud. If I was unable to speak to anyone and you would like to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to email admin at admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Blue Peter have launched their own YouTube channel where they are uploading videos that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. Their videos include world record breaking challenges, arts and crafts, environmental videos, cooking and baking, inspirational films, gaming, celebrity appearances, dance routines and music performances (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!)

Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.

Maths

Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we will be learning how to multiply whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. If you have a printer at home, your child may find it useful to print out the place value grid attached to this blog, however this is not essential as it is all included within the PowerPoint.

If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:

If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.

Times Tables

This week can you practice your x9 tables. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of this number? Do you know the division facts? Why not use TTRS or hit the button to help you:

Writing

Research:  Again, please see the PowerPoint attached. Like the maths, I have recorded the instructions so just click on the audio button to hear what to do. Today, we will be carrying out research and then using this to help us write a non-chronological report.

If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the writing lesson at the following YouTube link:

Here is the link to the San Diego Zoo website which is needed for today’s writing lesson:

If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.

 Reading

It would also be super if you could spend 10-15 minutes each day reading your school book that you have taken home or another book you have been enjoying at home.

Remember to continue writing in your reading diary and get an adult to sign in, then we can collect our raffle tickets when we are back in school.

Why not tell me what book you are reading over on our discussion?

Spellings

Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the silent T letter. You could make your own spelling doodle and add to it throughout the week. I will add a new word each day and then on Friday we can have a little quiz.

Today’s word: castle

Previous words: glistening, whistle, listening

Story: You will find our story embedded into our Writing PowerPoint – I wonder what the midnight fox will get up to next?

     PE

Keeping active is so important for our physical and mental health. Please see the attached poster for more information about our fitness challenge running this half term. Don’t forget to log your activity on the record sheet and share photos of yourself taking part in the challenge on Twitter using #2021FitnessChallenge and tag @ValeRoyalSSP.

Here are some more great resources you can use at home to stay active:

  Worship

For our Thursday worships, we will be learning to sign various praise hymns.

This week we are learning to sign ‘Our God is a Great Big God’:

Have a fantastic day Skylarks and remember to show our Christian values in everything you do! I look forward to chatting with you all on our class discussion today.
