25.3.20 Starlings - Happy Wednesday

Date: 25th Mar 2020 @ 8:24am

Good morning, Starlings. Happy Wednesday!

‘’I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart for so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.”
Winnie the Pooh

I hope you had another brilliant day yesterday and are starting to feel more settled into home schooling. It is going to take time to get used to, be strict with your routine and make sure you are making time to play games, have fun and just enjoy being together.

I hope you managed to access our fantastic speed sound lessons and Oxford Owl reading books yesterday.  I have noticed that the websites for both Phonicsplay and Oxford Owl are sometimes running slow or freezing as so many people are trying to access them at the same time. I have found that if I refresh the page a couple of minutes later they generally work perfectly again. Please let me know via email if you are having trouble accessing any of our resources.

Please continue to follow the attached timetable, completing the next page of your Power Maths, mental arithmetic and writing activities today. I would encourage you to also complete the brilliant Jo Wicks PE session, some Kidsbop dances and maybe even show your adults how brilliant you are at yoga.

Please continue to read daily and listen to audiobooks online to mix things up a bit. One of our favourite class authors, Oliver Jeffers, is reading stories live each day. He also has many beautiful audiobooks available on his website for you to listen to. It would be lovely to listen to a few of his stories over the next few days and discuss what you notice about his style of writing, any similarities between stories and express opinion on which is his best story and why.

During your creative time today, why not go outside and complete some observational drawing. I just love looking closely at flowers and drawing them using just a pencil. Could you also use natural materials to make a piece of art? You could use grass, stones,  leaves etc to create a spaceship, train or even a castle.

As we start to miss our school friends and family members who don’t live in our house, it is important that we find ways to keep in touch. I have just loved using Facebook and Zoom to arrange times to video chat with my friends and family. I even completed a quiz with friends over video chat – great fun! Perhaps your adults could help you to have a group video chat with some of your Starling friends too? You could also write notes and letters to family members to keep them smiling too.

I miss you lots and think about you all every single day. I hope you are all feeling safe and well.

I will be in touch again tomorrow J. Until then, keep being kind, remember to share and allow yourself time to be quiet and alone when needed. If all else fails, sing and dance to one of our favourite songs from 'The Lion King'.

With lots of love and very best wishes,

Miss Gillam

Message from Mrs Powell

Dear children,

We all have more time, are you thinking about the things you like to do at home and at school?  Please tell someone all about it and keep talking, it is great to talk!
