23.3.20 Starlings

Date: 23rd Mar 2020 @ 8:23am

Good morning Starlings,

‘’ You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart… I’ll always be with you.’’ A.A Milne

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. I am so pleased to see that the sun is shining again ready for a day of positivity and productivity, learning at home.  Please give yourselves time to adjust to a new and very different routine.  Record what you complete on the ‘Activity Log’ (p2) and have lots of fun.

  • PE 9am –Let’s start our day by getting active with a PE lesson with Joe Wickes live on YouTube. You don’t need any equipment, just tune to ‘The Body Coach TV’ on YouTube at 9am for a 30minute, fun workout.

Note: Tomorrow we will have a live Read Write Inc. lesson to watch in addition to playing wonderful phonic games.  You will also be given access to reading books online via a free sign up website.

  • Maths – Can you go on a shape hunt around your house? Can you sort your shapes into 2D (flat) and 3D shapes?

Please complete page 3 in your booklet. In activity one, I would like you to draw a line matching the shape to its partner. I would then like you to circle the odd one out in activity two. Please talk to your adult as you complete the task, using the words below to explain how you know you are right.

circle square rectangle   triangle   cube   cuboid pyramid   sphere   cone

  • Mental Arithmetic – Please complete page 19 in your pack. We complete these grids weekly in school so the children should be familiar with how they work. Please ensure that the children write the number 9 in each star before solving the problems.

  • Writing – Where will this bus go next? Can you write sentences to describe where the bus will go?

E.g. The bus is going to the pretty beach and it is full of people.

The busy bus is going to the zoo and to the park.

Please start every sentence with a capital letter and end your sentence with a full stop. Adults – please help your Starling to fix any incorrect letter formation, check for finger spaces and encourage Fred Talking. In Year One, the children need to use their phonic knowledge to sound out words. As long and you can read their writing, this is meeting the expectation for the year.

  • Spellings – Please use P82 in your pack to help you to learn to both read and spell our Year One Common Exception Words’. The children are expected to be able to spell these words by the end of the year. Write your spellings in your yellow jotter book using your best joins.  Adults again, please check for incorrect letter formation.

  • Creative Choice Activity: Please have some fun playing with your toys, sing songs on YouTube, dance, play board games, plant seeds, tell jokes, draw, paint and make your family smile.

Thank you as always for your continued support and please get in touch if I can do anything else to support. Take care, look after each other and keep safe. I will be in touch again tomorrow. Have a wonderful day.

Starlings, I am so proud of you. Keep smiling and keep working hard.

With LOTS of love and best wishes,

Miss Gillam J

I am so proud of all of the children, enjoy your first day of learning in a different way and remember to plant those sunflower seeds.
