The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

We have received this award due to an ever increasing number of our children competing in local inter-school competitions.

We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including our Sports Monitors, Phys-Kids Leaders, Playground Buddies and Change4Life leaders who have taken an active role this year to further raise the profile of sports in our school.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

School Games Gold Mark

Here at Lostock Gralam C of E Primary School we are celebrating our recent School Games Gold Mark. This is a huge achievement for the school and recognises the outstanding sporting opportunities available to the children here.

Over the past few years, the staff and children have shown that we place a high importance on PE and Sport. In 2012/2013 we achieved a Bronze Mark, in 2013/2014 a Silver Mark and now we have achieved the highest accreditation; Gold Mark. This has been awarded to the school for many reasons. At Lostock the children are invited to a wide range of after school clubs (street dance, cricket, gymnastics, rugby, multi skills, rounders etc.) as well as having opportunities within curriculum time to learn from professional players, have taster sessions for new sports and to work alongside local sports clubs. Despite being only a one-form entry school, Lostock has entered a large percentage of its children in many inter-school competitions. In July 2105, they did particularly well when the cricket team reached the county finals. Our ‘Sports Crew’ (Year 5/6 PE monitors) have played a big part in gaining Gold for our school. This is thanks to the work that they do in setting up their own clubs e.g. Change4Life and Phys Kids, as well as supporting sporting events in school and acting upon ‘pupil voice questionnaires’.

Here at Lostock we encourage children to participate in Sports outside of school and celebrate their successes in our weekly Praise assembly. We also regularly update our website and notice board in school, to keep parents up-to-date with all the sporting events going on here.  We are all very proud of the Gold Mark and the recognition that it brings to our school.

At Lostock Gralam we are looking forward to another exciting year, full of sporting events and celebrations. It will be a busy year, with England hosting the Rugby World Cup and with the Olympics taking place in Rio in 2016. We will be marking these events with a variety of activities to get everyone involved!

Starting with the Rugby World Cup, we will be hosting our own Tag Rugby competitions between our River Houses, commencing on Thursday the 17th September 2015. These will involve Years 4, 5 and 6 and will result in a final on the Thursday the 12th November 2015, where the winning team will receive their cup.

Football MatchesFootball

On Tuesday the 29th September our Year 3/4 football team played a fantastic match against Sandiway Primary. That had a great time and gained a lot of valuable experience from this opportunity to play a match against another school.

On Tuesday the 15th September our Year 5/6 mixed football team played in a friendly match against a very strong side from Sandiway Primary. The children were delighted to be wearing their new football kits, but sadly lost, despite a fantastic goal by Callum.
