Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” We are committed to ensuring children encounter and achieve the highest possible standards through partnership with our entire school community. We provide a happy, stimulating environment rooted in Christian values. Our aim is to equip individuals with the Christian Values (courage, love, friendship, hope, forgiveness, and respect) and life skills needed to "Live in peace with each other" (Romans 12:16-18), to take their place in the wider world and to make a contribution to it. Mark 9:37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.”
Children at Lostock Gralam learn a language throughout Key Stage 2. In Years 3 to 6, the children learn Spanish which provides them with a sound basis before moving onto secondary school. Within our Spanish lessons, there is a strong emphasis on fostering an enjoyment of languages. Therefore, songs, rhymes, puppets and games form an integral part of each lesson. Pupils are encouraged to ‘share what they have noticed’, identifying similarities with their own language, as well as differences (such as accents and punctuation). They are encouraged to: participate in role-plays to practise and share their learning; to develop oral confidence and pronunciation; to learn basic grammar; to do sentence building activities and to complete a written task to embed this knowledge.?
Our language learning is based on the three 3 pillars of language: phonics, vocabulary, grammar and the interplay between them. Pupils are able to talk about themselves and their family and how they are feeling, name the colours and order days of the week and months of the year. As their language learning progresses, they are able to apply this knowledge when talking about food, animals and the school day.
