Puffins – Week commencing 9th May 2022

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Weekly blog!

I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend!

Last week

Puffins have had a lovely week last. Lots of dancing to start our mornings to get us ready for our learning but also in aid of World Dance Day which was on Friday!

In maths we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes and also halves and quarters of shape.

We also did some more planting of wild flowers and preparing beds for more planting.

This week

This week we will be spending each morning in the school garden where we will be digging more beds for planting, planting potatoes, onions and rhubarb. We will also be planting certain flowers such as nasturtium and marigolds and garlic to act as natural pesticides to help protect our lovely vegetables. We will be making our own plant food from nettles which we will use to help our plants grow.

We will be doing some forest school learning too which will include den building, rope work making bridges, ladders and rope swings but also learning how to make shelters. So don’t forget to bring your water bottles, wellies, sun cream and sunhats for an action packed week!!!

Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s, 5’s and 3’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Date: 20th Mar 2022 @ 2:47pm

Week commencing 21st March 2022

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Weekly blog!

I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful sunshine this weekend!!

Last week

Puffins were learning about the lifecycles of butterflies, ladybirds, bees, frogs and the sunflower. We planted out our sunflowers so we are going to be measuring them each week to see how long it takes for them to grow.

Our caterpillars are growing now so it won’t be long before they will turn into a chrysalis. We are checking them every day and taking photographs of them each week.

This week

Puffins will be doing lots of art in the afternoons. We will be looking at paintings by Claude Monet, in particular his famous lilies paintings. We will be sketching, using different types of paint, and creating different textures in our work.

We will also be planting some runner beans, onions and rhubarb this week plus some more wild flowers and other flowering plants.

Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Puffins Week Beginning 14th March 2022, by Mrs Shimmin

Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 9:31pm

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Blog

This week we have been doing lots of practical Maths and taking photos of the children’s brilliant work.

We have listened to the story of “The Good Samaritan” and used puppets to retell the story.

Our caterpillars arrived and we are looking forward to watching them grow!

Next Week

We will continue with our practical Maths, phonics and reading.

This week is science week so we will be looking at the life cycle of a caterpillar drawing diagrams and labelling it.

We will also be continuing our work in the garden but will be searching for other mini beasts and comparing their life cycles with the caterpillar.

We will also be planting out other seeds this week and digging more beds.

Please encourage your child to read a few pages from their book each night and practice their times tables regularly.

Please remember to contact me if you have and concerns or questions.

Puffins Week Beginning 28th February, by Mrs Shimmin

Date: 28th Feb 2022 @ 2:25am

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Weekly blog!

I hope everyone had a great half term break and did lots of fun things!

This week

Puffins will be listening to lots of stories ready for our world book day this week. Remember we will be celebrating it on Wednesday 2nd March so if your child wants to dress up as a character from a book, they can do that but if not, they can come in their own clothes instead.

We will be continuing to work hard on the school garden and planting out more seeds and seedlings this week. For science, we will be looking at life cycles. We will be ordering our caterpillars this week so that we can see a ‘real’ life cycle and release them as butterflies before the Easter holidays.

Keep those 2 litre plastic bottles only coming! We need 1500 altogether so ask all your family members, grannies, grandads, aunts, uncles, cousins and even neighbours to keep collecting for us. Puffins are really looking forward to getting the greenhouse built.

Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Puffins - Week commencing 7th February 2022, by Mrs Shimmin

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 2:28pm

Hello and Welcome to Puffins Weekly blog!

Friday Superstar: Harrison

Top Table: Shayne and Josh

This week Puffins have had a great time making a start on our school garden. We have been digging the big mound of earth at the front of the woodland. We were filling the wheelbarrow and emptying it onto the outer areas where we have decided to grow wild flowers to attract bees and butterflies.

Next week

Puffins will continue with their hard work in the mornings and enjoy the school garden project in the afternoons. Afternoons in the school garden will also incorporate Science, Geography, Art, DT and PHSCE. We found lots of different creatures living in the soil and many insect larvae so we will be taking photographs and researching them on the internet. We will be looking at life cycles and also finding out what would be the best plants to grow to attract insects and wild life into our school garden.

With our school garden project continuing every afternoon, please remember that they will need their wellies and warm clothing for their outdoor learning. Wellies can be kept in school if need be.

Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.

Hello and Welcome to the new Puffins blog!

The children are really starting to settle in to their new classroom environment, which is such an accomplishment for them.

I know Puffins class will be an enjoyable and positive experience for the children with lots of fun and learning both indoors and outdoors.

In the mornings we do our phonics, writing and our maths and in the afternoon we do either Science, Geography, Art, DT, RE or PHSCE.

In science we have been looking at skeletons. We have looked at dinosaur skeletons and the palaeontologist Mary Anning. This week we looked at the function of a skeleton and the differences between animal and human skeletons plus vertebrates and invertebrates. Next week we will be looking at the function of muscles in the body.

In Geography we have been looking at countries of the UK and their capital cities. This week we will be looking at continents and which continent the UK is in.

In Art last week we were looking at Abstract art, in particular Andy Warhol and Piet Mondrian. In the coming weeks we will be looking at various other artists and creating our own versions of their work.

Our PE days are on Wednesday mornings with Mr Ault.

Fridays are our Forest school days where we do outdoor learning in the wooded area. Please remember wellies and warm clothes for your child. Wellies can be kept in school if need be.

Please encourage your child to read a few pages of their book each night and it would be helpful to practice their times tables with them too. At the moment, we are working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s. The websites below are great fun for Times Tables practice.
