Good morning Toucans. I forgot to remind you yesterday to check your answers from Friday’s Maths Challenge. They put them on the BBC website on a Monday. If you click again on the Weekly Challenge from last Friday, you will find them. Here is a screen shot of them for you to check in case you can’t find them online.

What could you read today?  I’ve realised that I’m always talking about reading but that is because books are brilliant and you can learn so much without realising it. You learn lots of new words, visit new places, learn new skills or just get lost in a wonderful story. Mrs Powell

Today I would like you to have a go at the English and Maths lesson from www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons  click on Year 6 and then see below

I know lots of you are probably beginning to think about high school as we are now in the summer term. I’m sure you have lots of questions. Hopefully, by completing this lesson  from  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons it will help put some of your worries/queries to rest.

Good morning my lovely Robins!

How are you? I hope you and your families are safe and well and enjoyed the unexpected sunshine yesterday J

I wanted to share this lovely quote with you this morning because I saw it and it made me smile

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”

Although this is a very strange time in our lives, I hope you are cherishing the time to make memories with your families. This is a time you will remember for the rest of your lives so make it count!

As a little reminder, our wonderful Power Maths books that we use in school are now available online at the following link. Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on ‘Power Maths Year 3’. Use the ‘Books’ and ‘Resources’ tabs to navigate between the textbook and the workbook.

Buenas Dias Swallows

I hope that you are all well. We did see some lovely sunshine yesterday after all which was great. What did you all get up to? Fingers crossed for more sunshine today...

Thomas and I did the lessons yesterday that I put on here for you. We really enjoyed reading the Firework Maker's Daughter and using our detective inference skills as well as exploring the shapes in Maths. We learnt what a 'slogan' is and Thomas enjoyed listening out for more examples on the tele later that day eg "Every little helps" and "Save money, live better". See if you can work out which supermarket these come from? Can you find any more slogans and tweet them to me?

Today, let's carry on with our inference and shape learning. There is also a Spanish lesson teaching you how to introduce yourself! Hola, Buenas Dias, me llamo Nicola. I wonder what I have just said? Click on the link below to find your lessons. Enjoy my lovely Swallows and have a wonderful day.

Good Morning Owls.
How are you all today? It isn't quite as sunny as it has been but hopefully you are still managing to get outside to play or go out for your exercise. How are you getting on making your bed in the morning? Are there any other jobs that you can be helping with at home? I know how helpful you all are. Leo has been helping to make tea in the evenings and even doing a little bit of dusting!

Here is a special message from lovely Mrs Hoskins:
Good Morning our Superstar Owls.
I hope that you are all enjoying being at home, spending quality time with the special people in your lives. Alongside her homeschooling, my Ellie has been helping her dad and I around the house. We have absolutely loved being in the garden in the beautiful sunshine, and she has been learning about the different tools used for gardening. We have also been teaching her to cook and bake. She has made pancakes, omelettes and chocolate crunch and has even had a go at helping her dad make their own version of KFC chicken- it was delicious!
I am loving being able to spend time with my big girl however Mrs Campion and I are missing each and every one of you like crazy!! You all have your own little personalities and we are really missing having our little chats with you and playing alongside you. We are loving seeing all of the wonderful things you are doing at home, what are your plans for this week? In my house, we are going to be decorating the bathroom and our first job is to knock off all the old tiles- it is going to be super MESSY! You all know how in Reception, we love getting messy so I am really looking forward to it!
Keep sharing the fabulous things you are doing as it makes us smile. Sending the biggest hugs and hope to see you all soon,
Love Mrs Hoskins x

I have found a lesson on the National Academy website which I think you will enjoy. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/foundation/people-who-help-us-reception-wk2-2
It is all about real life superheroes (doctors!) It also lets us think about all the people in our community who are helping us at the moment and all their special jobs. What is your dream job? You can draw a picture and write about it for me or act it out. Please share them on Tapestry. My dream job from when I was tiny was to be a Teacher and I am super lucky to get to do it everyday.
There is also a nice Maths activity on there counting in groups. https://www.thenational.academy/reception/maths/sharing-objects-into-equal-groups-reception-wk2-2

Thank you for all of your hard work. I am so proud of you all and think each and every one of you is amazing.

If you need anything at all, please get in touch,
Love from Mrs Campion and Mrs Hoskins

Monday 4th May, by Mrs Evans

Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 12:28pm

Welcome to Summer Term Week 3. I hope you had a lovely weekend.

I was very impressed to hear about how many of you are learning to cook and bake at home. We were inspired to make our own pizzas on Friday for tea. Yum Yum Yum! I wonder if you could help with the cooking or baking this week or even make someone in your house a lovely Greek salad like we made in class.

Review: Last week some of you loved the game and book review task. I have received the first one via e-mail so here it is....  Well done! Beautifully presented too!

School Jobs:

Maths: ISeeMaths - This week has been our favourite so far because it is all about shape puzzles. I think lots of you will really like it. It is the Y3/4 lesson for Monday 30th March. http://www.iseemaths.com/lessons34/

Lola and Amelie just made their own little jottings to go with the lesson. No printing needed.

Reading and History: VE Day.This Friday (8th May) is VE Day. Lots of people are celebrating by making bunting and flags, choosing food for a special picnic or meal, making posters. Have a look at the links to find out more about VE day and for ideas of some activities you might like to do.

https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/remembrance-events/ve-day-75

https://www.veday75.org/

Art: Have a look at this Frottage lesson from the Oak National Academy which is all about textures. Amelie and Lola really enjoyed it last week and I have seen a few posts on Twitter from different children in school.

https://www.thenational.academy/year-6/foundation/texture-treasure-hunt-year-6-wk1-5

This is what ours looked like at the end:

Spellings: This week's spellings are attached with an idea for an interesting way to practice them. (Great for handwriting practice too!)

Remember there is another Home School work pack available for Y4. If you would like one printing, please just e-mail or phone school to arrange for this to be done then you can pick it up in the entrance.

Stay safe, Stay home and be respectful today.

Missing you lots,

Mrs Evans smiley

Message from Mrs Powell:

Good morning! This week we are going to think about V.E day. I’m going to tell you little stories that my Granny Peggy told me; she lived in London during the war and my Grandad was an RAF pilot. First of all, I want you to think about a day you will always remember, happy or sad. A birthday, a family event, something you shared with friends. Is there a special food that reminds you of that day? My niece Edith is now 3 and I was lucky enough to visit her in hospital when she was a few hours old. I remember that gorgeous feeling, how hot the hospital was and helping my sister eat the chocolate I had brought for her! What special memory do you have? What reminds you of that? Some memorable days are happy and some are sad. Each of us will have our own experiences and our own reactions to them. There are as many different sorts of memorable days as there are different sorts of people.

Buenas Dias Swallows

I hope that you have had a lovely weekend. The sunshine has disappeard however it is dry so we can all still play outside today. Have you seen Twitter? If not, take a look this moring. Our buterflies are doing really well, just waiting for one more to emere from its chrysalis. They have beautiful red and brown symmetrical patterns on their wings. Maybe you'd like to draw/paint a picture of a Painted Lady Butterfly today or this week and post it on Twitter for me to see? Below is a link to some images of them. I have made a nectar of sugar and water for them to drink and gain energy from as well as some fruit. When they first emerge, they flutter their wings to dry them out for a few minutes then they sort of bounce as they try to fly. It is gorgeous to see, I managed to film one yesterday, I was there just at the right time, it is on Twitter for you.

There are some great activities here for you today https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2#schedule.

You will be really good at the reading one as we have looked at lots of inference questions in class. This is where the answer might not be obvious in the text, you have to think why..... Remember the "great white female with her magic wand letting the small humans cross the road into a huge building where they stayed for most of the day?" We were detectives and realised that she was a Lollypop Lady crossing school children over a busy road into school! Have a go, I'm sure you will be great detectives again today.  There is also a super shape activity for you to try.

You may still have work in your packs to have a go at or there are lots of activities on our website Home Learning page. The IseeReasoning Maths ones are fabulous as well as the wriitng ideas under the Year 2 tab. What ever you do today, be kind, have fun, use your manners and know that Mrs Elson and I are thinking about you always and miss you more and more each day. You are so special to us and we are so so proud of how you have all adjusted to this new way of working. Please say hi to everyone in your family for me, I miss your grown ups too.

Have a fabulous day. I will read some more of our story later aswell. Last chapter now! I wonder how it will end?

Love from Mrs Rice ans Mrs Elson xxxxxxx

Good morning Toucans. I hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for another week ahead. The weather forecast doesn’t look as nice for this week but I’m sure we can still get out for our daily exercise. How many keep uppys did you manage? How many skips in 2 minutes? Maybe this week you will play some board games with your family or do some jigsaws, mindfulness colouring or crafts. Take a look at these websites for some ideas.

Happy Monday Robins J

I hope you had a lovely weekend, enjoying the beautiful sunshine, and are ready for another week of learning from home. I have attached our timetable again with some suggested activities and tasks. Remember, just do as much as you can!

I am really missing reading your lovely stories that you write in school. Pobble 365 is a great website to encourage creative writing – there is a beautiful stimulating image for each day of the year and some suggested writing activities below. Or you could simply write your own description of the image or incorporate it into an adventure story. You can even go back and look at all the images from previous days to choose one you like – just click the ‘pick a day’ link in the top right corner. Please share your super stories with me on Twitter if you have a go @LostockGralamPr

Have fun and keep smiling. Sending lots of love and hugs,

27.4.20 Starlings Class Blog -Monday, by Miss Gillam

Date: 26th Apr 2020 @ 8:01pm

Hello Starlings,

I hope you are all keeping well and have had a lovely weekend. I had a busy weekend of catch up phone calls, exercise and garden games with my family. It is amazing how quickly the weekend goes by even when I can’t get out and about.

Once again, I have attached a new timetable for you to follow this week with new tasks and projects to complete – remember this is only a suggested timetable and activities are always optional! Just do what you can, when you can.

I know lots of you are now running out of resources in your packs that we printed out for you in school. Please do not worry about this. We are so lucky that there are now so many more online resources available for free to help the children to continue their learning journey whilst being home schooled.  Although many online lessons have printable resources, it is not expected that you print these at home. Recording answers and copying out questions onto a piece of paper or into your exercise book is more than good enough.

Please continue to aim for one activity out of each box below each day. This may not happen every day and that is absolutely fine! Your child's mental health is much more important than a home learning task.

A little bit of maths

  • White Rose online lesson
  • BBC Bitesize lesson
  • Oak National Academy lesson
  • Mental Arithmetic fluency grid (If you have any left)
  • Counting games

A little bit of writing

  • Child initiated writing
  • Writing sheet from the pack (If you have any left)
  • BBC Bitesize lesson
  • Oak National Academy

Remember to use a capital letter, finger spaces, full stop and the conjunction ‘and’,

A little bit of reading

  • RWI Online lesson
  • Oxford Owl online reading and audio books (colour banded)
  • Phonics Play
  • Read a library book or a book from home
  • Reading comprehension – See attachment

A little bit of topic work

  • Daily job set by Miss Gillam on our weekly task list/timetable
  • Oak National Academy
  • BBC Bitesize

Miss Gillam’s Recommended Daily Jobs

  • I love the writing lesson on the BBC Bitesize home learning page today. It is all about forming letters correctly, something that we all need to master by the end of year one. It then goes on to teaching the children all about alliteration. The really rapid race reminded me of a race we learnt about at the Museum of Science and History. Can your Starling tell you about ‘The Big Bike Race’? Can you tell you about Hans Renold and the invention of the chain?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zh8c47h

  • Again on the BBC Bitesize website is a fantastic maths activity based on ordinal numbers. We use ordinal numbers to describe which order things come in. Ordinal numbers are words like:
  • 1st - first
  • 2nd - second
  • 3rd - third
  • 4th - fourth
  • 5th - fifth
  • 6th - sixth

and so on...

Please use the link below to access some lovely teaching videos and activities based on ordinal numbers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhw8d6f

Thank you all for your continued hard work and support. If you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Good morning everyone,

I cannot believe we are entering the month of May! Who will be celebrating their birthday this month? You have reached another Friday of home learning which means that you all deserve a hot chocolate to celebrate the success you have had this week! You are doing a great job and I am so proud of each and everyone of you!!

Today, I would like you to have a go at a comprehension text this morning. Please complete on that is in your learning packs and if you already have then here is a link with some comprehension:

Please have a go at recapping learning on short division for maths: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zdynscw

Today’s riddle: I have no feet, no hands, no wings, but I climb to the sky. What am I?

Yesterday’s answer: A clock

Message from Mrs Powell:

“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.” Roald Dahl

You are amazing and you are doing something very special; by not leaving the house you are keeping safe.  We have talked about making one small change that can change the world and actually that is what you are doing right now. I’ve said this a lot but future children will be reading how you made the world a safer place by staying inside.

Remember what you are doing is amazing and we are so proud of you.  If you can, have a hot chocolate today. If not, have a cup of anything you like to drink and remember how very special we think you are!

Hello everyone,

Today is Thursday which means it is tonight we will clap for our NHS and pay tribute towards all the frontline workers applaud them for their bravery at treating those who are unwell. Make as much noise as you can, get the pots and pans out!

Continue working through your Maths work in your packs, why not focus on completing the maths mats made by First4Maths! These are such a brilliant resource and you can change the number in the star multiple times!

Last week my 6 month old puppy (Ruby) had her first haircut!!

Then she thought she would help me with some digging in my planters that I am trying to make.

We have been looking at Relative clauses in school and we are aware of the relative pronouns that we can use. A relative clause adds extra infomation to a sentence to make it more complex. Have a go at following the link to recap this learning: https://www.thenational.academy/year-5/english/character-description-spag-focus-relative-clause-year-5-wk2-4

Yesterday’s answer: A hole

Message from Mrs Powell:

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you like, as long as somebody loves you.” Roald Dahl

We always say that everyone is special and that we are all unique. During the past few months, you have been surrounded by love and we have all been reminded just how special those people around us are.  Who are you going to tell how special they are today?

Look after yourselves!

Good morning lovely Owls.
I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. We have been out in the garden again all weekend enjoying the sunshine and doing some planting.
What have you got planned for today?

I have put together some ideas for you this week of things that you might enjoy doing. Please do not worry if you do not get chance to do them all. Just do what you can. All of your new RWI activities I have posted onto Tapestry. It is wonderful to see so many of you enjoying keeping up with your phonics at home. I am so proud of you.

Remember, the activities in your pack you can do anytime so if you are feeling a little bored you could maybe do an activity from there.
Have you been on the Oxford Owl website yet? If you are wanting to do a little bit more reading I know you will enjoy these. Leo and I have been reading some at home on his tablet.

Hello parents and Skylarks class,

I hope you are all looking after yourselves? Today i’d Like you to continue working through your packs and concentrate on spellings this morning, maybe making some flash cards to write the spellings on and then look at the word, turn the card over and verbally spell it or write it and then check answer.

I have been spending a lot of time over the weekend upcycling some furniture! Here are some pictures:

Please tweet me ways you have been creative over the weeks as I love seeing them!

You are all so fantastic at reading and I would love it if you could give this a go to focus on the meaning of words. https://www.thenational.academy/year-5/english/character-description-reading-comprehension-word-meaning-year-5-wk2-2

Today’s riddle: The more you take away, the more I become. What am I?

Yesterday’s answer: Mount Everest

Message from Mrs Powell:

“No book ever ends when it’s full of your friends.” Roald Dahl

Do books ever end if you have really loved them?  Are there books you just love and don’t want to ever end?  We remember stories forever; I still remember reading The Enchanted Wood when I was little, and when I read it to my daughter Emily it felt like I was visiting friends again.  What book will you read when you are older?  Maybe you are being read a book that someone loved when they were little.

Take care everyone and stay safe!

Hello everyone,

Remember all the work you have done so far you are doing such a great job in these unusual circumstances! Keep making sure that you are not doing too much and that you are looking after your minds too! It is important not to over exert yourself and to stay positive! How are you all getting on with those lists of things you would like to do when all of this is over?

This is a great thing to recap as the children are very good at it and have worked hard to achieve it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z7r492p

Again this is another great way to recap the learning the children have already done. It is great to refresh their memory and repeat the learning they have done. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zvv6t39

Today’s riddle: Before Mount Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain on Earth?

Yesterday’s answer: because they don’t know the words to be song

Message from Mrs Powell:

“If you’re going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.”Roald Dahl

What could you read today?  I’ve realised that I’m always talking about reading but that is because books are brilliant and you can learn so much without realising it. You learn lots of new words, visit new places, learn new skills or just get lost in a wonderful story.

Keep smiling!

Good Morning Goldfinches,

I can't believe we are at the end of another Home School Week. Well done for all your kindness and helpfulness around your house and well done for the school jobs and creative ideas you have achieved. You are all superstars.

This week my girls have really got in to watching Malory Towers on CBBC. See what you think!

For Lola's birthday quiz last week I had a go at making my own emoji 'Old and New  Children'sTV programme and Movie round'... Can you work out the titles?? Can you have a go at making your own emoji quiz? Maybe for books/movies!

If you want to make your own for us all to share and solve, send a screen shot of it by e-mail to the school office. They will send it to me and I will add it to our daily blog!

Sharing window: We are going to make a the large windows down the corridor in school our 'Sharing window'. If you would like to share anything you have been drawing and doing in the window, please drop it off to our sharing box in the school entrance the next time you are out on your daily walk. (Or e-mail it to the school office if you don't live near school and want to share something) There is a lovely letter in there already from one of our gorgeous Goldfinches!

School Jobs:

History/English: Continue to work on your Historical Medical Hero task. I have re-attached the weekly plan so you have the links to all of the websites.

Times Tables: Have a go at some of the ideas from the attached sheet. Remember you do not need to print it out, just choose an activity you like. Or find a game to play on your Tablet/Laptop.

Reading: Read articles from Picture News or First News (attached) and tell someone in your home all about what you have learned. Or tell someone who doesn't live in your house over the phone, using whatsapp or face time.

Have a lovely weekend. I wonder whether any of you will manage to sleep in a den this weekend?

“Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world.”

Roald Dahl

You are amazing and you are doing something very special; by not leaving the house you are keeping safe. We have talked about making one small change that can change the world and actually that is what you are doing right now. I’ve said this a lot but future children will be reading about how you made the world a safer place by staying inside. Remember what you are doing is amazing and we are so proud of you.

If you can, have a hot chocolate today. If not, have a cup of anything you like to drink and remember how very special we think you are!

Good Morning Team Goldfinch,

How are you all this morning?

I have had the most lovely last 2 days catching up with you all over the phone. It has made me so unbelievably proud to hear all of the wonderful things you have been doing at home. The list is endless.... I thought i'd share a few. Maybe you could magpie some of the ideas and add them to your keeping busy mind map! or... I wonder if you could guess who has done which activity!

Mending old tree houses, caring for new kittens, learning about electrics, helping around the house, running 3km a day, finding out about turtles, baking scones, becoming the newest champion skateboarder, making a bug hotel, camping out in the garden all week, learning to tell the time, painting fences,  planning your own visit to Llandudno (when this is all over), sewing a Florence Nightingale outfit, creating Lego masterpieces, putting on shows for parents, face timing each other, creating a basket ball challenge, learning about food hygiene and keeping foods fresh, reading the Beast of Buckingham, learning to speak Italian, creating maps of America, finding out about Marie Curie, doing a river collage, boxing in the garden, watching A Midsummer Night's Dream, growing beans, creating beautiful natural artwork, baking, reading Harry Potter and, possibly my favourite, giving the best cuddles...

Wow! Goldfinches you really are the Dream Team!

One of the things my children are enjoying each day is quiet reading time. Sometimes they tell me they don't want to do reading time, however, with a bit of nagging they soon get into it and then I can't get them to stop when time is up!  We find a nice place to curl up and are trying to choose different places to read. So far we have tried out bed, cushions on the floor, trampoline, sun-lounger, sofa, in a den, picnic mat outside.  We just do it for about 15-20 mins (like our lovely reading time after lunch in class) They sometimes read their books on their own, sometimes read to me, sometimes I read to them and sometimes listen to a free story on Audible. It is wonderful to be able to disappear into a different world.

School Jobs:

English:  Have a go at the third lesson from the Oak National Academy    https://www.thenational.academy/year-4/english/features-of-poetry-year-4-wk1-3/

Spelling: Can you use your spellings to make your own wordsearch for somebody else to solve? Either use squared paper or use the link below to do it on the computer. Toby made some using squared paper then posted one to his friend while we were out on a daily walk.    https://thewordsearch.com/maker

Maths: Can you get Arty with Maths? Try an activity from the Arty Maths Ideas (attached)

Have a lovely creative day Goldfinches. What can you achieve by the end of today?

Look after yourself and your family members,

We always say that everyone is special and that we are all unique. During the past few months, you have been surrounded by love and we have all been reminded just how special those people around us are. Who are you going to tell how special they are today?

Guten Tag Goldfinches, Wie Gehts? (How are you?) How was Dienstag? (Tuesday)

It was my turn to be in school yesterday so the Evans gang had to organise their own home school learning... they did pretty well and I was really proud of them when I got home and heard all about their day.

I am also so proud of each and every one of my lovely Goldfinch team. Think about what you have done recently to make yourself and others proud of you? Who are you proud of and why?

My Happy Mind:  https://myhappymind.kartra.com/page/ParentKitBundle

Have a go at the My Happy Mind activities. If you are not linked in yet, try your happy breathing or put some relaxing music on like we do for peer massage. Cosmic Yoga can also be relaxing and fun.

Maths: ISEEMATHS home learning lesson for Y3/4. Continue with the next lesson (Friday 27th  Marchhttp://www.iseemaths.com/lessons34/

or... have a look at The lessons for Y4 on the White Rose Maths site. Again, it would be best to start at the beginning of the tab marked Week 1 and run through the lessons in order. I have been using the Y2 version with Toby and we both really like it. We don't print out the activities, instead we just make notes or drawings in his work book, or use Lego people as counters!

Home Learning Pack: If anyone would like a new Home learning pack with new activities in I have put one together. It will be available to collect from school from tomorrow morning. If you want to collect it, we are open most weekdays except Fridays at the moment, but it would probably be worth checking that morning with a quick phone call/e-mail first.  This is completely optional and available as and when you need it.

Have a great day- be productive and Goldfinches, please be good listeners.

“No book ever ends when it’s full of your friends.”

Buenas Dias Swallows

Our magic fairy has sent you a message today!

Hello lovely  Swallows,

I hope that you are all well. I have been busy planting lots of seeds and watching them turn into beautiful seedlings on my windowsill. I ve now planted some of them into pots outside with the help of my magic fairy Lola. Although Swallows, as you know Lola dog is a bit cheeky and she is trying to eat my seedlings! I'm wondering how all your sunflower seeds are growing?

Swallows I ve also been busy listening to Mrs Rice reading the magic faraway tree, which was amazing and reminded me how much fun we had sharing all those adventures from the story. I'm enjoying reading in my garden. I'm finding lots of stories I ve not read yet. I wonder what you are enjoying reading?
Keep being super fantastic Swallows.

Mrs Elson xxx

How lovely it is to hear from Mrs Elson, she misses you so much.

Today I thought that you could have a go at your times tables thorugh the BBC site

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/tags/z7s22sg/year-2-lessons/1

Mrs Elson has also reminded me about a fun song for our 3 times tables which we would have been learning now in school. Check this out!

I have also listened to Grandad's Island being read out loud with my Thomas, he loved it. Do you remember that wonderful story that we shared together with all of the amazing jungle animlas? I'll post the link here. Thomas and I are going to write a letter today to Syd from Grandad telling him all about the wonderful adventures that he has ben having on the island (although he doesn't know that yet!). Maybe you could too? Gareth is going to read one of these each week, keep an eye out for them as they are always gorgeous stories. These links are also on the home learning page of our website.

Good Morning Goldfinches,

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday. Did you do some school jobs? Have some creative time? What exercise did you do? Yesterday we caught up with Joe Wicks Dressed up as Superman from Friday and we laughed at how incredibly cute his little girl India is. It was a great workout too!

Did you see the Evans' 'Happy' dance on Twitter? I challenge you and your families to have a go and tweet your dance!  cool

I have had a look at another activity in my 'Create your own Happy' book. Have a look.... and have a go. It is a bit like the petal activitiy we did in class where your friends wrote something nice about you on a different petal and you were in the middle. You could use e-mail/zoom/facetime/phone to ask your family and friends for their ideas.

School Jobs:

Book/Game Review: This was an idea I saw in the Picture news which might appeal to some of you. Write a book or game review of a book or game you have recently read or played? I have attached a useful page for each. (Remember you don't have to print these- just use them as a guide of how to set out your review in your work book)

Take care my little Goldfinches. Be good and be helpful today.

What could you read today? I’ve realised that I’m always talking about reading but that is because books are brilliant and you can learn so much without realising it. You learn lots of new words, visit new places, learn new skills or just get lost in a wonderful story.

Good Morning Goldfinches and welcome to Summer Term Week 2.

Our Garden Camping Weekend went well and we have all pretended to be away on holiday this weekend but it did make me think a lot about our Llandudno adventure and made me feel a bit sad too... however, like my Gran says, 'You have to play the Glad Game,' and think about all the things that you can be grateful for. I'm grateful for my family and friends and for all the wonderful people all over the world who are working so hard to keep us all safe.

This week or this weekend, I wonder if any of you could make a den somewhere in the house or a tent in the garden and pretend to be sleeping away from home?

It might be a little chilly outside this week and although we are still going to get outside in the garden daily, we might have a go at some more of the lego or drawing challenges (I have re-attached them for you )

Oak National Academy: I said on Friday that Lola and I would trial a lesson from Y4 and I sent you a link to the SPAG lesson from Thursday of Week 1. I quickly realised that the lessons are part of a sequence and needed to go in order (like ISEEMATHS) Sorry- we are learning about all of these new ways of learning just like you. We skipped back to the Monday lesson and had a go from there. We quite liked it and enjoyed the poem 'The Magic Box'  I have added a link to BBC Bitesize with the actual Author Kit Wright reading the Magic Box aloud:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zkpmhyc

School Jobs: The weekly plan/timetable is attached.

English: https://www.thenational.academy/year-4/english/poetry-reading-comprehension-word-meaning-year-4-wk1-1/   This is the correct link to the first lesson about the Magic Box by Kit Wright.

History: Research a famous scientist who was important to medicine. Our NHS and Care workers are our medical heroes of today. Choose one of these medical heroes from the past to find out about: Florence Nightingale, Mary Secole, Louis Pasteur, Edward Jenner, Marie Curie, Alexander Flemming. I have added a number of websites and ideas for how to present them on the weekly plan.

Reading: Use the websites for History ( attached to the weekly plan)  to read all about your chosen Historical Medical Hero.

Times Tables: This week focus on your 11x table

For other ideas of things to do....I have attached the Picture News for this week and also a Learning from Home ideas from Picture news.

Parents and Carers, I had a few days of feeling absolutely swamped with the quantity and wealth of free online activities and suggestions of things to do and also work attached for my 3 children from their school so i thought I would repeat my message to you.... As always, please, please remember that your child's happiness and well being are our first priority. The activities on the blog each day and in the weekly timetable are a guide. Do what is right for you and your child at the right time. There are no deadlines and I am trying to plan a range of differnt activities through the weekly projects. Some of these will interest your child more than others and they don't all have to be done, or done within a week. In my house we are hopping about between different interests and activities depending on the day and the mood of my 3! You are doing a great job at a very strange time. Be proud and just focus on 1 day at a time.

I look forward to blogging tomorrow and to seeing more of your lovely work on Twitter/by e-mail

I think you all deserve a hot chocolate today. Thank you for all the effort that you have been putting into your home learning. I’m sure you will agree that having some structure again this week, after the Easter Holidays, was needed. That said, please just do as much as you can at home. Make sure your home learning fits in with your family life. I hope you are all listening to your parents and showing our Christian values at home.

Friday 24th April

Hello Goldfinches - I send happy Friday and Hot chocolate thoughts to you all.

What are you doing this weekend? Over the Easter Weekend my little team made a den in the living room and camped in it for three nights! They loved it and because it is still so warm, we are getting the tent out after our school work is done and sleeping in it this weekend.

Yesterday we added 4 more moves to our garden circuit -we magpie the moves we like from Joe Wicks.  I ended up doing the last circuit by myself whilst the children snuck back indoors ! (I enjoyed it though!) What are you doing for your daily exercise today?

Great Fire of London: Toby, Lola and I watched the London Fire Brigade Museum clip about the Great Fire of London. Toby remembered lots of facts after learning about it in Y1. Give it a go...How much can you remember and recall from studying it in Year 2?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3IUJp9dHGw&t=16s  (It is only about 6 minutes long)

Which plants were which? ...... The reveal....

A = Pea  B = Bean and C = Pumpkin. Well done if you had a go at guessing.

School Jobs today:

Maths:  Have a go at the third  ISEEMATHS home learning lesson for Y3/4. Continue with the next lesson (Wednesday 25th March)  http://www.iseemaths.com/lessons34/

24.4.20 Starlings Class Blog - Friday, by Miss Gillam

Date: 24th Apr 2020 @ 8:25am

Good morning to my super Starlings, HAPPY FRIDAY!

I can’t quite believe that it is Friday already, this week has gone so fast. Each Friday evening, I compete in an online quiz with lots of my friends. I have never really enjoyed going to a quiz before but it is something that has really brought my friends and I back together during lockdown. Have you had a video catch up with your friends recently?  Would you like to join in with a Friday Quiz? Here is a link to an addition quiz, remember to use your 100 square, number line and objects around the house to help you to solve each problem.

https://www.educationquizzes.com/ks1/maths/year-1-calculation-addition/

I have found a fantastic Art lesson on the Oakview National Academy website today, linking perfectly to the Art challenge that I set for you on our weekly timetable. This lesson focuses on creating a piece of work inspired by an artist called Andy Goldsworthy. Can you use natural materials to create your own rainbow? Can we fill our Twitter feed with beautiful rainbows?

Here are two of my favourite songs about rainbows. Why not Tweet yourself singing along?

Your maths lesson for today could be focused on the natural materials you have found in your garden. You could count how many items you have in total or solve addition and subtraction problems using what you found.

If I add my green items and my white items, how many would I have altogether? What would my number sentence be?  You could also sort the items by colour, size, shape etc.

____ green + _____ brown = _________              10 green leaves – 4 green leaves = _____

Please remember to tweet me photos of you being busy and having fun. It doesn't have to be photos about school work, it could be you playing out, baking, reading, dancing, relaxing etc. I would love to see photos of you all.

Have lots of fun today Starlings and have a wonderful weekend. I will speak to you again on Monday.

Love

Miss Gillam
