Thursday 14th January

Hi Skylarks and happy Thursday 😊

It was so lovely to speak to lots of your parents yesterday and hear how hard you are all working at home. You all make me feel very proud. If I was unable to speak to anyone and you would like to discuss anything, please do not hesitate to email admin at admin@lostockgralam.cheshire.sch.uk and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Blue Peter have launched their own YouTube channel where they are uploading videos that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. Their videos include world record breaking challenges, arts and crafts, environmental videos, cooking and baking, inspirational films, gaming, celebrity appearances, dance routines and music performances (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!)

Please see below for today’s home learning tasks.

Maths

Today we will be learning how to multiply whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. If you have a printer at home, your child may find it useful to print out the place value grid attached to this blog, however this is not essential as it is all included within the PowerPoint.

If you cannot access the PowerPoint, please view the maths lesson at the following YouTube link:

Here is the link to the San Diego Zoo website which is needed for today’s writing lesson:

https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/animals-plants

If you are watching the lesson through the YouTube link, you may need to pause the video at appropriate times to give yourself time to complete the tasks.

See the Power point attached. Today we will learn how to subtract a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number.

Click here to watch the you tube video of my Maths Power Point if you can't hear my voice on the normal Power Point.

https://youtu.be/M8j5NzW9Dzg

  Times Tables

Recap your 3x table. Can you say it forwards and backwards? Can you write out the multiples of 3? Try saying it whilst bouncing on the spot (or on your trampoline) or try counting up in multiples as you walk up the stairs and then say the multiples backwards when you are coming downstairs. TTRockstars   https://ttrockstars.com/   Where can you get to on the leader board today?

 Writing

See the Power Point attached. Today we will be writing a description of the most amazing setting. You will love this picture Robins!

   Reading

Read an article on the National Geographic Kids UK website. You can choose something that interests you and try to remember 3 things about your article to share with your family later. Choose the ‘Discover’ tab on the website, then select an article. There are different headings including Animals, History and Science so there’s plenty to choose from. I like this article about a ‘unicorn’ puppy:

https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/animals/general-animals/narwhal-the-unicorn-puppy/

Or, simply enjoy some quiet time reading something that you enjoy. xxx

Spellings

Have a go at reading, saying in a sentence and spelling words with the suffix ‘ture’

adventure (adventuring, adventures, adventured)

mixture (mixtures, mixing, mixed, mixers)

capture (capturing, captured)

future (futuristic)

picture (pictures, pictured, picturing)

nature (similar to natural)

creature (creatures, similar to create)

I will add a new word each day and we can have a little quiz this Friday. Why not create a "Roll and Spell" game to learn these words or do your own spelling scribble/doode?

Thomas thought of another one for our 'Roll and Spell" today - ROBOT LETTERS! Have a go! He did them all with straight lines to look like robot wriitng.

 Worship

It is time for our signing worship today Robins. It has been such a long time since we were able to sing properly together in school which is one of the parts of school life that I miss the most. However, whilst you are at home, you can sing your little heart's out beautifully.

I am attaching some songs to learn to sign but you can sing along too whilst at home.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaXPXWBcE3I

Time to stop and relax and come with me into Giant country...

If you can't hear me on the Power Point, I have turned today's story time into a you tube video for you.

https://youtu.be/0Y8yuNR7QSA

To keep active, this link is fabulous. You can sing along to Disney songs whilst you dance. Let's try it and maybe you could let me know on School Spider which one you like.

In order to access the resources at the link below you will need to sign up to a free account (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’. Then you need to select which type of mindfulness activities you are interested in, I recommend choosing ‘improving wellbeing’. Finally select the resources for ’10-12 year olds’ and you will now have access to 60+ mindfulness sessions that are great to help your child relax, unwind and switch off after a busy day of home learning.

Please do let me know if you have any trouble gaining access to these resources and I will do my best to help.

Have a great day Skylarks! Remember if you need any help with our work today, I will be on our class discussion throughout the school day.
