Good morning Toucans.
I hope you have all started recording your daily exercise on our Fitness Challenge record. I was delighted to hear that so many of you go on daily walks and cycles. Today, I would like you to take a look at the GoNoodle website and try out the dances that I have listed below under PE. I am going to ring as many of your parents today as I can to check in to see how you are getting on with your home learning.
Maths
SHAPE – Converting Units of Time See the Power point attached. Our home learning maths lessons will be guided by a recording of Mrs Whittingham’s voice, which will explain what to do (Just click on the little speaker icon on the power point page). I have also included the answers on the last slide so no peaking until you have had a go at answering the questions yourself!

Blue Peter have launched their own YouTube channel where they are uploading videos that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. Their videos include world record breaking challenges, arts and crafts, environmental videos, cooking and baking, inspirational films, gaming, celebrity appearances, dance routines and music performances (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!)

Multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000: For your maths lesson today, please see the PowerPoint attached. Just click on the little speaker icon on the PowerPoint page to listen. Today we will be learning how to multiply whole numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. If you have a printer at home, your child may find it useful to print out the place value grid attached to this blog, however this is not essential as it is all included within the PowerPoint.

The weekend is in sight! Keep working hard Swallows, you are nearly there. Did you enjoy reading our special new story ‘George and the Dragon’ yesterday? Isn’t the vocabulary fantastic? Did you complete any of our 5-a-day dance videos?
Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or tell have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages. It is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch.

Today for our worship I would like you to take part in a guided meditation on My Smiling Mind, just like we do in school.
In order to access the resources at the link below you will need to sign up to a free account (it only takes 2 minutes!) Once you have signed up, select the age category ’12 and under’. Then you need to select which type of mindfulness activities you are interested in, I recommend choosing ‘improving wellbeing’. Finally select the resources for ’10-12 year olds’ and you will now have access to 60+ mindfulness sessions that are great to help your child relax, unwind and switch off after a busy day of home learning.

I hope you are all keeping well and have now got into the routine of home learning. If you have not done so already can you, please check in with us on our class discussion on School Spider. Today we are launching a Fitness Challenge that many children throughout Cheshire are getting involved in this half term. Please see below under PE for more details.

Fitness Challenge - Are you fit for 2021?
Here is a fitness challenge that we would like everyone to take up and start today.
Can you do 20mins or over of continuous movement and 21 mins or over of continuous exercise every day?
Please see the attached poster for details.
There is also a record sheet to fill in.
You may not be able to participate every day but every day counts so do what you can.
The challenge finishes on the 22nd February.
Who will be our top scorer in each class? Across the whole school? Against other primary children in our sports partnership?

Did you enjoy writing your diary yesterday? I loved reading the many examples that were sent in via our class discussion and via email. You should all be so proud of yourselves. I hope you are ready for another busy day of home learning.
Please see our task list and PowerPoint presentations below to see what your home learning tasks are for today. Please also remember to take a few moments to look at the class discussion page each day where I will be available to ‘chat’ to you about the work that I have set for that day. You can just pop on there to say hi or tell have a little chat with your friends. The children can type in their own messages. It is a lovely, safe way of us staying in touch.

Times Tables
I hope you had lots of fun learning your 2 x tables last week. This week, I would like you to focus on learning the ten times tables.
Please write the numbers 1 – 10 in a list going down your page. Now we are going to multiply each number by 10. Look at the example below. Then go through in order, starting by counting in 10s one time. What is the total? Now put 2 fingers up and count in 10s. What is the total? Now put 3 fingers up and count in 10s. What is the total? Continue until you get to 10 lots of 10. Did you notice a pattern? Can you write your ten times table quicker than yesterday? Why don’t you put a timer on and see how speedy you can be?

We were so very impressed with all your hard work and effort last week so keep it up! Please spend 20 minutes today reading something wonderful. Any book of your choice. Get lost in the wonderful world of story or find out an interesting new fact in an non ficiton text. See if you can find any new vocabulary that you have't used before in your writing. If you don't know what the new word means, ask your grown up if they have a dictionary or ask me on our discussion page.
I have also attached a children's newspaper for you to read, it is excellent. We have copies of First News in school so you may have seen it. This is written just for Primary School children, I think you will really enjoy looking at the articles and reports in here.

My Lola is loving a book called ‘The Nowhere Emporium’ by Ross Mackenzeie. It is all about an orphan called Daniel who runs into the ‘Nowhere Emporium’ whilst running away from a gang. In it he discovers he is special and meets Mr Silver. He becomes an important part of the Nowhere Emporium and travels around the world and back in time. Lola says she would definitely recommend it to Y4 readers who like adventure stories.
