Date: 15th Sep 2022 @ 1:22pm

Welcome Back to Toucans’ Weekly Blog ?

We have had another fantastic week in Toucans class, where the children have been working so hard in all areas of the curriculum!

Praise: Jake

Top Table: Riley and Mason J

Next Week (W.B. 19.09.22)

Reminders:

  • Monday 19th September is a Bank Holiday and school will be closed that day, with it reopening on Tuesday 20th September.
  • PE will take place on both a Monday and a Friday each week, so please send your child into school wearing their PE kit on these days. PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/navy.

Curriculum:

In English, we will continue to read our story Star of Fear, Star of Hope and will build our writing skills through writing a recount of the story events so far, along with further work on writing in the passive voice.

In maths next week, we will be starting a new unit focusing upon the four operations. We will continue with our 4-a-day arithmetic questions each morning, along with solving problems involving addition and subtraction.

In science, we will be investigating how the size of a shadow changes when a light source is moved closer or further away from an object.

In our history/geography lesson, we will begin to look at the events of the Wars of the Roses with a focus on when and who was involved in this conflict.

In art, we will begin to create our Paul Nash inspired conflict paintings using our sketches as a foundation.

In RE, we will continue to explore what it means to live in a religious diverse world and look at how different religions celebrate the birth of a child.

We will also be having a 'forest schools' session in the morning of Thursday 22nd September.

Homework

Children in Year 6 will be set a weekly maths homework that they should complete and mark at home using the answers provided in the back of their homework book. If your child is finding the homework challenging, I will ensure that supervision is provided one lunchtime each week where your child can ask any questions or receive the support they need to complete the homework.

Children should complete pages 7 and 8 of their maths homework book this week and return it to school by Thursday 22nd September.

Please also encourage your child to read for 15-20 minutes each evening and practice their spellings and times tables. The following website is great for times tables practice:

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 23rd September will again focus on suffixes and will be:

appreciation, cycling, faded, grizzly, joker, nicest, observant, persuaded, sensible, slimy.

Please remember that if you have any questions or queries, do not hesitate to get in contact!
