Our Christian Values are Hope, Respect, Friendship, Love, Courage, Forgiveness

Skylarks WB 28.6.21

Date: 25th Jun 2021 @ 9:30am

Hello everyone and welcome back to our weekly blog! We have had another super week of learning in Skylarks Class?

Next week in our English lessons, we will be focusing on inferring character’s thoughts and feelings. We will begin by completing a zone of relevance for the character Chris to help us gain a better understanding of how he might feel. We will then use these thoughts and feelings to help us write quotes that we imagine Chris might have said, as well as a recount of Chris’ life before and after the first moon landing.

In our reading lessons will continue to read about the International Space Station and Astronaut Chris Hadfield. Our main focus will remain on how language, structure and presentation contribute to meaning.

In maths we will continue our work on fractions. We will consolidate our knowledge of subtracting fractions, before moving on to look at multiplying fractions. We will continue to consolidate our knowledge of the four operations through daily 4-a-day activities.

In science we will continue to explore Earth and Space. We will be making our own sundials and exploring how we can use the position of the sun in the sky to tell the approximate time.

In RE we will reading a Letter written by Paul in the book of Corinthians. We will explore what happens in the verse and will also reflect on what the passage teaches Christians today about forgiveness and justice.

During our topic day, we will become geographers and will use our map skills to help us explore the wider world, including North America. First, we will learn about the lines of latitude and longitude and will use these to help us locate the equator, northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, Arctic circle, Antarctic circle and the Tropics of Cancer/Capricorn. We will then use maps, atlases and globes to locate the countries and surrounding oceans/seas of North America.

Our PE days are Thursday and Friday so your child should come to school in their PE kit on these days. Please remember PE kits should either be school kits or plain black/blue.

Homework

The children should complete page 26 of their maths book to be returned by Friday 2nd July. This homework is looking at solving calculation word problems.

Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their maths homework.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 2nd July will be the next 10 words from the Year 5/6 statutory word list:

muscle, necessary, neighbour, nuisance, occupy, occur, opportunity, parliament, persuade, physical
