Hello everyone

Welcome back to our weekly blog ?

This week in our Writing lessons, we will be using our carefully thought out plans to write our own narrative based on ‘The Hunter’. I am so excited to read the children’s stories and I know I am going to be super impressed with their use of engaging vocabulary, relative clauses and adverbs for possibility. Why not ask your child what each of these features are?

In maths, we will continue to look at fractions. This week, the children have shown a great understanding of equivalent fractions and converting between improper and mixed number fractions. We will consolidate our understanding of these concepts next week, and will also move on to look at number sequences and comparing/ordering fractions.

In science we will be looking at our new topic ‘Earth and Space’. We will begin by asking questions about the theme, before sharing any prior knowledge we may have.

Our music lesson this week will be very exciting as the children will be using their bows for the first time. The children have shown such a keen interest in our violin and cello lessons this half term and have made great progress so far.

Our PE day this half term is Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit on this da/y (Cricket will resume on a Thursday after May half term).

Homework

The children should complete page 28 this week, to be returned by Friday 28th May. This homework is looking at equivalent fractions which we have been learning about in school this week.

Remember, if your child is unable to complete their homework at home, Mrs Hulse and I will ensure that supervision is provided on a Wednesday lunchtime so that they can complete it in school. During this lunchtime, any children who may be struggling on a particular question at home can also come to ask an adult for help.

Please encourage your child to read and practice their spellings/times tables in addition to their new maths homework.

Our spellings for the quiz on Friday 28th May will be the next 10 words from the Year 5/6 statutory word list:

Existence, explanation, familiar, foreign, forty, frequency, government, guarantee, harass, hindrance, hinderance

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact ?
